I like to believe I’m a pretty basic girl. No fancy car, home decor, or clothes and the same holds true with my health products. I’m slow to catch onto all of the latest trends, waiting to make sure they actually stay in ‘trend’ before I purchase. Yes, I do realize this means I am behind the times.
I also like to keep a natural approach of keeping it simple and clean. Obviously I’m secretly wishing I was a member of the Kilcher family on Alaska the Last Frontier, but here’s the deal, while I don’t have all the latest health gadgets and products there are some that I wouldn’t live without.
Here is my list of 12 health products that will change your life.
1. mason jars + plastic lids
These are the best for storing homemade sauces, take and go smoothies, organizing your pantry and re-heating leftover soup. I use mason jars all of the time, even as drinking glasses. An inexpensive and extremely useful purchase! Not to mention the plastic lids are easy to clean and reliable.
2. salt lamp
Salt lamps are being sold everywhere it seems like now. I can’t say I blame the craze. Salt lamps are a great way to purify your air {just as house plants are but without the work} reducing odors, mold spores, viruses and bacteria. Technically you’d need them for every room but I like it for the bedrooms.
3. blue light blocking glasses
I’m on a mission this year to personally reduce the stress load on my body. One great stress is blue-lights {computer screens, TV’s, cell phones and other electronics}. Blue lights can increase our cortisol levels at night reducing the release of melatonin and basically slowing our circadian rhythm. Meaning you won’t sleep as well when exposed to blue lights after the sun goes down. A great and very inexpensive way to prevent this is blue light blocking glasses.
Personally these have changed so much for me and I can’t live without them at night. They have reduced headaches, increased focus and yet helped me to relax at nighttime as our bodies are designed. This is a MUST HAVE item!
4. earthing mat
Earthing is reconnecting with the frequency of the Earth. Given that we are made up of electricity, being in the right frequency can actually help our body to function as it was designed. Being off can cause everything to waver including our moods, immunity, sleep patterns and weight.
This is why the sun is so powerful in our overall health. We also get grounded by walking barefoot on grass or dirt surfaces and even rocks but not cement or in shoes. If you’re not getting grounded regularly {like us folk living in the midwest in winter} using an earthing mat that connects to the ground in your house can change your frequency and help you to feel better and sleep deeper. This earthing mat could be your solution!
5. defender shield
EMF radiation has been around for years but with the current state of wireless, we are just now beginning to see the health effects of it. Some are calling EMF radiation worse than cigarettes and the silent killer. While research is still being done, I would advise you if you are using a laptop, ipad or other mobile device to purchase a defender shield. It prevents the harmful EMF rays from penetrating your body decreasing the stress load.
6. water pillow
Having trouble sleeping? Maybe it is time you switch pillows? I have been using a water pillow for over 15 years and I will never go back. The perfect firmness, based on your preference, plus the ability to shape to your figure. If you’re having trouble sleeping, waking up tired or have neck and shoulder cramps, try this inexpensive fix. One of my most recommended products.
7. nourished planner
The simple tool that can be taken everywhere with you to keep your life together. From meal planning to daily to-do planning to life mapping, the Nourished Planner helps you keep all of your to-dos, and lists in one place. Not to mention it gives you the space to write it all down, release it from your mind and rest easy knowing time is not owning you anymore. A product I use every day!
8. book light
You may be wondering how a book light could change your life? Well here’s the scoop. We have become a people who spend hours upon hours on some sort of device or watching TV. This has been proven to lower nearly every function in our body including our IQ. Some believe it is because of the stress load we put on our physical body, emotions and mentality.
Instead of grabbing for your phone and scanning social media for hours, or watching countless shows nightly, why not pick up a book. Challenge your mind while reducing cortisol levels at the same time. A book light can help you read past dark without the glaring overhead lights and escape into a state of relaxation.
9. diva cup
FOR WOMEN ONLY. We’ve known for years that traditional menstrual products are full of toxins and far from safe. In some cases worsening the case of infertility and hormonal imbalances. Yet, there hasn’t been a great solution to this monthly problem. But do I have good news for you.
Recently I switched to a Diva Cup and it changed my menstrual cycle. I experience less cramping, less PMS side-effects, more comfort and it’s clean. Not to mention I no longer have to worry about the toxins or the messy toxic-free products. If you’ve never heard of a Diva Cup you need to check it out. It is worth every penny and will save you so much money in the long run.
10. essential oil diffuser
I’m no essential oil guru and in fact rarely use them topically. But what I do use is diffused oils. Being a sensitive person yet loving the smell of fragrance I’ve struggled to find something that would provide the warm smells without the annoying headaches. Using an essential oil diffuser has allowed me the best of both worlds.
I have multiple different diffusers but hands down this is my favorite providing the light and yet refreshing smells of essential oils while also having some health benefits.
11. fit bit
Over the last few years and battling my illness, I’ve completely changed my view of exercise. I still believe in a good workout but not in beating your body to submission or trying to outwork it. In the long run this will wreck you {I found out the hard way}. Instead just foster your body and focus less on intensity and more on movement.
A great way to do that is to track your steps. Aiming to get 8,000 plus steps a day is a good goal to reach for. Having a high functioning watch to track this makes it fun and attainable. I still prefer a Fitbit and only wear it during the day.
12. dry brush
The lymphatic system is one of the most critical systems of the body and yet is the one we know the least about. However, more and more information is coming out about the importance of our lymphatic system and moving it to create better health.
Given that the lymphatic system has no central pump, we are required to move our fluid through exercise, sweating, massage and any form of movement. If you want to increase your lymphatic flow and get a better glow, try using a dry brush before showing. Small circular motions on your extremities moving towards your trunk is all it takes. Plus it feels like a mini massage and costs less than $10.
final thoughts
If you’re new to health, some of these can seem out there. But trust me, being frugal myself, I wouldn’t recommend these if I didn’t think they had great value. Start slow or go all in. The total of all of them combined isn’t even that much and is worth every penny. Plus you can order them all online and get them to you in just a few short days!
Sometimes we just need a little help and these 12 health products can be just the help we need.
