Sugar detoxes are all the rage and rightfully so – we’re a nation obsessed with cravings, and we hate it. But what if cravings weren’t the problem? What if cravings could be a good thing? What if you could crave healthy food?
That’s what we uncover in today’s podcast – how to switch your cravings and use them to crave healthy food.
It seems a bit twisted – maybe slightly odd – but I don’t think we were supposed to be void of cravings but rather made to crave.
Inside the podcast, I talk about what cravings are, how we can twist them for good and five tips to crave healthy food.

5 ways to crave health food
Most of us crave all the things – like pizza, burgers and fries, chocolate, ice cream, chips, – I mean do I need to keep going? But how often do you hear someone craving something healthy?
I want you to know, that it’s not because it can’t be done. In fact, food cravings and addictions are something we can overcome – learn how in this podcast – why you don’t binge on broccoli. Once you understand how your body works, then you can get a feel for how you can actually begin to crave healthy foods.
Here are my top five ways to crave healthy foods.
1. Focus the Experience
Food is a unique experience. It’s not only one that is essential, but emotionally as well. One way to crave more healthy food is to focus on the experience making it as positive as possible. Think about why you crave unhealthy foods – most likely it’s not just the flavor but the way it makes you feel, the company you ate it with and the place in which you consumed it.
Think about all the elements to the experience and make the act of eating healthy food enjoyable.
2. Add a highly palatable natural food
Highly palatable foods are not just burgers and fries or that bag of chips but, it has been studied that nature provides plenty of its own highly palatable foods. Try adding at least one of them to every meal. Think things like:
- potatoes {including white and sweet}
- fruits like berries and cherries
- fats like olives and avocados
- pistachios
- other starches like rice and quinoa
3. fill up on nourishment
So many of our bodies and our cravings that come from our bodies are just a cry for nourishment. The more we provide highly nourishing foods {things that are grown from the earth like fruits and vegetables} the less likely we are to have intense cravings for bad foods.
Remember hunger and cravings always go hand and hand. The more we can nourish our cells the less hunger we will experience and the more satisfied we will be. Focus on real, wholesome foods at every meal.
4. Try new things
We all crave adventure, even if we don’t admit it. Our palates are satisfied by flavor, not just quantity. Make an effort to try new foods, new recipes or spice profiles. You might find that you like healthier foods more than you thought.
5. Try the sandwich technique
It’s true; we’re hardwired to crave sugar. It’s part of our survival code which also means there is no way around it. Rather than being fearful of it, embrace it. If you crave it, you might as well eat it because it’s not going to go away. Start by trying natural sources of sugars, like fruit or a bit of honey and if that doesn’t cut it go for the sandwich technique.
The sandwich technique essentially states that you eat whatever it is that you crave in the middle or near end of the meal. It looks like healthy -> craving -> healthy. You sandwich it in between the positive which not only changes the way you digest and metabolize it but also how your mindset perceives it.
It’s good to always end on a high note.
the end of cravings
If you’re looking for something more – something powerful – then maybe you should consider a reset?
It’s something I do, and I highly recommend others doing a few times a year if not every quarter. It breaks the cycle of addiction through nourishing your body, transitioning your taste preferences and so much more.
