We know this because of the countless thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people who eat right and exercise well and yet cease to see any results.
The dreaded fear we all think about when embarking on yet another health regimen.
But I’m here to tell you that we know there is so much more to the health equation than simply what we eat and how much we exercise.
In fact, our lifestyle, our environment, our mindset equate to over half of that equation. So it’s time to start talking about it and today we’re doing just that.
Today’s podcast is with expert Dr. Hannah Anderson. We dive into everyday items that could be destroying your hormones. It’s not something to fear but something to take action on because in most cases we still have control.

Okay, sorry for the scary intro, I mean it’s more like attention grabbing but the good news is there is so much we can change. From our cosmetics to our cleaning supplies, how we drink water, what kind of water and even food storage.

top 5 Switches
Once you grab that list, you can see there are a lot of potential changes to make. So I thought I would gather my top 5 simple switches to make first.
1. replace your water bottle
Statistics show that Americans used about 50 billion {<- that’s with a B} water bottles last year. I was shocked by this number both from a waste perspective and a plastic consumption perspective.
One simple change is just to grab a glass or stainless steel water bottle to carry around. Here are a couple of ones I love:
- This LifeFactory Bottle.
- If you like to drink out of a straw, this tumbler is for you.
- Probably my all-time favorite, for ease of cleaning is this one.
- For my Blender Bottle friends, here’s a stainless steel version.
2. skip scented and un-natural body lotion
Our skin is our largest organ absorbing nearly 70% of what gets put on it. That means if you slather your body in lotion, daily, your body is taking in 70% of whatever ingredients it contains and trying to filter it out.
Our skin-care needs to be taken seriously and with good natural ingredients because to our body, it decreases our stress load tremendously. Not to mention, we really don’t need that much lotion. Our skin is amazingly capable {in the right environment} to provide just the right amount of oils.
But if you do need some lotion, here are my recommendations.
- Coconut oil – because you really don’t need any fancy serum.
- This homemade version is pretty amazing if you don’t like straight coconut oil.
- If you just want to buy some, I love this stuff.
3. get rid of the plastic food storage containers
Our food gets directly ingested into our body. That means all the nutrients and chemicals alike. One natural way to reduce your exposure to endocrine disruptors is to switch out all of your plastic utensils and food storage containers.
Getting rid of the plastic in your kitchen can be daunting but I’ll give you my top three changes to make right away. If you choose to phase them out just make sure to avoid heating any food in plastic and/or adding hot food to it.
- Switch out your plastic food storage containers with these glass ones.
- Get rid of your plastic cutting boards and opt for wood. I’m partial to these.
- Throw out your plastic utensils and switch to wooden ones. They last forever and are toxic-free.
4. Skip the candles and other fragrances
The word fragrance, unless it’s coming from essential oils, is not a good sign. These fragrances are known to cause hormonal disturbances in the body. But who doesn’t like something to freshen up the house or warm up your space?
Opt for natural candles with essential oil fragrance or just get a diffuser and diffuse essential oils. My favorites are:
- This natural candle company doesn’t have a strong smell but it does warm up the house.
- We use this diffuser in the bedrooms and this one in the living space.
- Of course, you can’t go wrong with using salt lamps to clean up the air.
5. beware of your oral health care
More and more research is coming out about oral health and the impact it has on our overall health. Given the blood flow to our gums is a direct line to our heart, you can see the importance. That’s why I think oral care and the products we use are on my top-5 list.
Here are some simple switches from toothpaste, floss, and even a tongue scraper. Wait, are you scrapping your tongue?
- This toothpaste is different but amazing.
- Plastic-free floss that I actually like.
- A tongue scraper, because we all need a tongue scraper.
Remember, slow changes are better than no changes! Start somewhere and watch as you transform your routine and your health.
