Gooey, chocolate goodness all packaged into a delicious chewy avocado brownie with creamy chocolate frosting. Life stops with each bite.
I’m not even a brownie fan {don’t judge} but these are spot on. It may even top the charts as one of my favorite desserts I’ve made. Okay maybe next to the fruit pie, but a close second.
But here’s the deal, they’re not just a brownie but the healthiest brownie you’ll ever come across. Of course one that doesn’t taste like a cardboard box, because no one needs food like that in their lives. Made with black beans, avocados, and cocoa powder this is the closest you’ll ever get me to say that these brownies could be the cure to your next craving
Satisfy a craving with a chocolate brownie. Let’s talk about this should we?
cravings uncovered
Cravings are the intense drive to eat {generally something sweet} that appear to come out of no where most days. But who am I to explain what a craving is? I mean, I think we’ve all had them, right?
However, let’s be clear about the difference. A craving generally stems from a desire in your head that was put there both by a behavioral mode and biochemical one. Hunger on the other hand is a true physiological need to eat, felt in the GI tract. That’s why you could be stuffed full and still have a craving for food. Yes we all know that feeling.
Essentially, cravings develop out of an expectation or “want” in the brain that are associated with our reward centers. We most often find cravings coming from our unconscious mind. This is our mind that is driven by habit, routine, and the seeking of pleasure. That is why we often find people associating cravings with habits.
the habit loop
It’s represented in the book “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.” This book sums up what we call the habit loops of our brain. It goes like this; If you give a mouse a cookie, he’s going to get thirsty and want a glass of milk. If you give him a glass of milk then he’ll…. Where eventually he gets a trigger that he is thirsty and he wants a glass of milk. AND if he asks for a glass of milk then he’ll want a cookie to go with it.
If you haven’t read the books to your kids then I’m probably making no sense. If you have, then you’re following. We live off of habit loops. Just like watching a movie could trigger the desire to eat popcorn, or eating pizza could give you the craving for a pop (soda for you southerners). It’s a routine we’ve conditioned ourselves to. Thus why it is so difficult to end the cravings based off the mind games our brain plays with habits.
You can see the behavioral drive for cravings, now lets address the biochemical. The biochemical which still stems from our mind.
the desire drive
There are two chemicals that occur related to cravings. The first is dopamine, which is the chemical of desire and provides us great motivation to seek out our desires. The second is our stress hormones. These provide us with the lovely feelings of anxiety and uneasiness that push you to take action and ultimately get what you want.
A perfect storm?
Definitely something to note, especially in the heat of desire you can feel both extremes pushing you and exhausting any willpower you have.
how to cure cravings
There are a lot of ways to cure cravings, mostly which include the lifestyle aspect working to change your subconscious and those habitual routines you do daily. This is a big deal with our lifestyle choices and environment making up a significant amount of the change you see in your body.
You can learn about these life-changing changes in The Craving Cure program including; meal timing, daily eating patterns, and learning to hack your cravings. Ultimately this could help you overcome cravings in just three short weeks and without changing anything you eat. Find out more here.
These lifestyle changes help provide relief in healthy ways to those things we crave. Some people would say trick our mind but I really feel like this is just providing what it needs. Ultimately if we have a satisfied body we have a satisfied mind and our cravings become non-existent.
So providing is going to be a critical component and you can do this by adjusting the biochemistry of the brain. This means raising dopamine and doing things to lower stress hormones. Things like creating a healthy morning routine, knowing what you live for, having hope and finding time for yourself.
We could talk extensively about lowering stress, which is a huge passion of mine, but lets just cut to the brownies, because I’m sure you’re ready to get baking.
the brownie cure
I can’t say these brownies could cure all your cravings, but the ingredients in these brownies can definitely help combat biochemical cravings. For instance, the cocoa powder found in these brownies as well as the frosting has been show to help shut down cravings from the biochemical end based on the compounds in cocoa powder. Now I must be clear, that is 100% pure and raw cocoa powder {I use this brand} and not sweetened chocolate, two different things.
The brownies also contain a hearty amount of healthy fats coming from the avocados and black beans working to regulate your hormonal flow and control your blood sugar spike. So yes, this quite possibly could be that dessert that cures your cravings and helps to reduce cravings all at the same time.
Complicated sure, but do we really need to know anything besides this recipe and the fact that it can help reduce what you desire? Just trust me on this one. If you’re going to eat a brownie, try these blender avocado brownies with creamy chocolate frosting. It won’t disappoint and it’s made in a blender!
Mic drop!
Healthy blender avocado and black bean brownies with creamy chocolate frosting.
Um. Yes.
remember
And while you’re still here. Sugar is a sugar. So I’m not claiming these are fair game. While they do have health components I don’t think the entire pan is a good idea. Still a treat but a healthier treat than most.
For the love of brownies, enjoy!
