Taking back your hormones and cycle syncing were two things I never knew existed. But I can surely tell you I would have done more if I had known.
In my high school days and even college days {before I really started grasping this whole health thing} I used to suffer from debilitating cramps. Cramps that could take you down and out in a matter of hours.
From migraines to vomiting and intense back pain, I can honestly attest to the fact that my period caused some of the worst and consistent pain in my life. It was the constant that happened every month that I dreaded.
As you can imagine, I become friends with my heating pad, rice bags, and Advil. The combination that at least let me sleep through some of the pain. Finally, it reached the point where I went to the doctor, who started me on birth control.
Which is great for controlling cramps but not so great at healing the root cause. More like the band-aid approach to stopping hormonal flow altogether. Unfortunately, while it helped my cramps it enhanced my anxiety and depression. It definitely wasn’t a good fit.
Like most people, I just thought that cramps, PMS, and an irregular menstrual cycle were all part of being female. I thought we had to learn to deal with it. Now I know that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Today on the podcast we overcome that myth and talk about how to take back control of your hormones.
Yes, today it’s for women only and we dive into fixing your hormones with something called cycle syncing. I even made a downloadable chart to help you learn cycle syncing and start to practice it for better hormonal health and flow! You can grab that below. {Trust me, you’re going to want to grab that one ;)}

cycle syncing
Cycle syncing was founded by Alissa Vitta, the author of Woman Code, which I HIGHLY recommend everyone read. It is a process of getting back intuned with your natural flow and providing it the right nutrients and energy during the four phases to flourish.
Not only does it dive into when to eat what, but how to exercise during the different phases as well as when you’re more productive and what tasks to do when. I’m telling you it’s fascinating stuff.
Like I mentioned before, I put together an entire free printable to help you start to incorporate this into your own life here.
four phases
Unlike men, women cycle different and therefore require different nutrients and needs during the four different phases. I’ve gone on probably one too many rants about this difference between men and women before but take note, if you have done everything and have yet to see results, then this could be why.
While men run off more of a 24-hour hormonal cycle {which is under debate} woman have a 28-31 day cycle. Inside this cycle, there are four phases.
- Follicular Phase – When the body prepares an egg to be released.
- Ovulatory Phase – When the body releases the egg to be fertilized.
- Luteal Phase – When the egg is either fertilized and prepares to be attached to the uterus or the egg is destroyed and the uterus begins the process of restoration.
- Menstrual Phase – When the lining of the uterus is shedding.
The cycle of a woman is really fascinating. So many moving parts and layers that evolve into one functioning cycle that repeats itself over and over, month in and month out.
But the deal is, if this gets out of whack, or even just one component, can it set the entire flow off? That’s the debate and the reason I wanted to do this podcast. So you understand the menstrual cycle and know how to provide the right environment for the different phases.
how to do it
Like I mention in the podcast. Cycle syncing is about syncing your life to be in-line with your flow. This means you change your workouts based on your energy levels during the different phases. You add in specific foods to provide the specific nutrients for the phases and you work based on how your body feels.
If you listen, you can probably start to pick up on your own flow pretty quickly.
For instance, during the first half of your cycle {the follicular and ovulatory phase} you have WAY more energy, brain functioning, are more sociable, and your libido is increased. As the phases continue everything seems to tank and you become more introverted. This is common and necessary.
What isn’t is necessary is the endless PMS cramps, symptoms, anxiety, and moodiness. That is exactly what cycle syncing is working to fix.
In this handout, I’ve laid out the different phases of your cycle and what you need to know in each. I’ve also put together a chart for you to start listening to your body so you can work on optimizing it. Click below to get that.
