Fight fear and overcome anxiety with this no-nonsense approach that will encourage you how to cut through the daily clutter of life and step out in fierce faith. Expert Alli Worthington gives all the advice we need to overcome fear and live fiercely.
I used to think fear and worry were something you were just born with. A good characteristic or an emotion that when allowed to run out of control turned into the disease that is anxiety. The disease that just like cancer seeps through every fiber of your body.
But then life happened, and abruptly. My husband of less than a year and I were expecting our first child. Nine years before we had ‘planned’ to have children. Just babies ourselves, right out of college barely knowing that we wanted to do with our own lives let alone how to care for another.
I remember finding out, taking the test twelve weeks in, denying for the previous three months that my missed period meant anything. The dark pink line {at 12-weeks it’s definitely not faint} and the shaking, the fear, the anxiety rolled in like a freight train. I remember the exact moment that fear took over my entire being as I sat in the bathroom and questioned everything.
Sure I tried to brush it under the rug. I tried not to show it. In fact, I went two more weeks before going to the doctor to confirm what I already knew. I went four more weeks without telling any of my family {of course my husband knew}. And I went 32 weeks when I was put on hospital bedrest before I finally was forced to grasp that this fear was a reality. I was soon to be a mom, ready or not, it was happening.
Fear, worry, and anxiety showed up like a dark cloud during those days. Don’t get me wrong, the day our sweet Ava was born was one of the greatest days of my life. But, it was in that moment that I realized a love like I never knew existed and a fear like I never knew existed.
The question becomes what emotion would I let win the battle?
I don’t know if fear, worry and anxiety work in that way. Like once you let them in its hard to get them to leave? I don’t know if it is age, more responsibility, grasping what life means? I’m not sure where the fear comes from and how it can happen so quickly but I know it can.
The choice really becomes how do we overcome fear, worry, and anxiety. To live in freedom rather than bondage and ultimately to live loved?
Today on the podcast I have a very special guest. My friend and business {and life} mentor Alli Worthington. She just released her latest book, Fierce Faith and I have to tell you my life has been changed. The best book I’ve read in years and a topic that sinks so deep with me and maybe with you.

- How we can win this daily battle and step into joy
Grab her book here and make sure you check out the podcast. Life changed!

did you know this
I used to think our emotions were just thoughts. They didn’t really carry a ton of weight and surely the only impact they were having was on our mood. But through research, study and just living I know this is far from the truth.
In fact, our emotions, our mindset has a direct effect on our overall health. Just like every cell in our body has receptors to physical pain and trauma, they too have similar receptors to emotions.
These receptors are treating our emotions just as physical trauma. This means that the fear and worry that grips your life is having a negative impact on the health of your body. These negative thoughts, even simple ones like feeling bad that your jeans are tight are creating a cascade of stress hormones to be released into your bloodstream.
These stress hormones signal to your body to release some epinephrine {so you might have a temporary boost of feel good at least to get through} but also cortisol. The cortisol signals to free-up glucose stores which opens the gates to the dreaded sugar rollercoaster.
The sugar rollercoaster we know so well, starting the process of highs and lows, intense cravings and the need to eat your emotions. It’s not just something you do but there is a true physiological response.
the bottom line
What we think, our emotions and mindset dictate our health. In fact, some consider our emotions including fear, worry, and anxiety to be some of the largest health factors, even more so than what we eat and how much we exercise.
Granted both can help, especially if you are one to use exercise as therapy. It’s all a matter of what we use to numb the pain, the vice to take away the burden.
the five bad B’s
Inside the podcast and in Alli’s new book she breaks down the five bad B’s that people often use to cope with fear. These include:
- The Busy Body
- The Blamer
- The Binger
- The Buriers
- The Brooder
Being aware of your trigger helps you know when you’re feeling weak and how to beat it, which Alli uses the five good A’s. Inside the episode, we uncover the five good A’s
beat worry, live fierce
Like I mentioned, inside Alli’s latest book Fierce Faith she helps you to understand how you cope with fear, worry and anxiety and how to break free of these vices using practical tips and steps.
Through working with Alli over the last few years she has taught me an incredible amount about beating fear and giving me real ways to stop when I feel it coming on. To sort through it rather than let it control my every step.
If you too are plagued by fear, worry and anxiety {I mean who isn’t} you must grab a copy of her latest book here. I can’t recommend it enough!
stones of remembrance
One exercise that I’m using to help me on my own journey of beating fear is the Stones of Remembrance. Alli talks about this in her book and this is where the idea came from. In the book of Joshua, chapter 4, God calls the people to find twelve stones and use as a reminder of all that God has accomplished.
I wonder, what would change if we just kept a log of all the ways God has answered our prayers, has paved a way, split a sea, opened doors, closed others and led us into His glory? What if we could remember that He has gone before us, He has made a way?
Would this free us of the need to worry about every detail that isn’t even ours to control?
I can tell you, this has given me great hope to remember, see and recognize how he’s guided my path this far. Not to mention, how much more he’ll do in the future. It’s just letting go and letting Him have control. The maker of Heaven and Earth is much more capable than we are.
So I wanted to give you a free download to help you complete this journey for yourself. Click below to download and keep it with you recording anything and everything for a week, then a month and even a year! I bet we’ll be amazed to see how powerful and how great His movements are in our lives.
