I swear, the older I get the quicker the holidays appear every year. Is it true, the older you get the faster time flies?
Whether I’m ready or not, they are here. Frankly, I’m more than ready. In fact, the holidays are my favorite time of the year. Well next to the spring thaw the allows the sun to emerge through the dark and dreary winter days, but the holidays are it. So I can’t say I’m really disappointed, in fact, I’m pretty elated that the time is here to dive into all things festive. But that’s beside the point. The point really comes down to the fact that the holidays are here {as said in my slightly panicked tone}.
As I was thinking of all the ways we’ve been told to stay healthy through the holidays I was wondering how realistic any of them are anyways? I mean you’re either super disciplined and willing to forgo all holiday treats for the sake of the scale and your image, or your willpower usually hits the fan before the Thanksgiving turkey hits the table and you’ve already committing to enjoying the holidays picking up on January 1st.
Regardless of which one you are, I believe there can be a balance so you don’t have to be a slave to your health during the most glorious time of the year. Yes, that means you can enjoy every simple thing about the holidays, including your Grandma’s fudge and a warm frothy drink.
On today’s podcast we dive into my top five healthy holiday tips that are mostly unconventional and yet super practical. I also created a free download for you to take these tips show you how to implement them in your life today!
I also created this amazing drink for today’s show thanks to Vital Proteins. I know I didn’t add this to the healthy holiday list, but let’s be real a healthy homemade version of a warm drink can help you beat so many cravings.
Be sure to get the recipe for today’s show. This Golden Chai Latte is so good {and so healthy} I just can’t stop drinking it!

the healthy holiday gift guide – with a hint of fun
Outside of the food, the family and friends, endless games, laughter and conversation, comes the gifts. Oh how I love to give during the holidays. I used to just buy gifts for the sake of giving {because that’s what you’re suppose to do} but over the last few years I’ve really put thought and meaning into the gifts.
While I never go to the point of DIY-ing my own Christmas gifts, bless those of you that do, I do put my time researching companies that have some pretty awesome products. Things I have used, fallen in love with and I know would make new gifts.
On the podcast I give you my top ten, but added ten more below just for fun, because you can never have too many ideas!
Happy gifting!
just for fun
Dear Muska Jewelry – Hand-made jewelry with a purpose and mission. This is a company working to give back to those seeking adoption. I personally have a few pieces of their jewelry and love every single one. They are staples to my everyday wardrobe.
Not Today Satan T-Shirt – Because we all need a simple reminder that Satan does not have control over our lives. But seriously, not only is it cute but a conversational starter as well. Sometimes all it takes is a small reminder of who is in control and what better way than this?
Lemon Tree – Fresh foliage inside your home has some major perks for your air quality. I think a perfect and non-traditional gift would be a plant or a tree for someone you love. I know a lemon tree is on my wish list this year. Plus, did you know they will ship them right to your door?
Book of the Month Club – Thinking outside the box, the gift of a good book is always welcome. By why not take that farther and start a book of the month club sending your favorite book once a month to the person you love. Here are some of my top recommendations for 2017:
- Fierce Faith
- Chasing Slow
Nourished Planner – Isn’t it every girls dream to get a beautiful planner with a ton of practical use? Okay, maybe not a dream but I don’t think you’re going to get anyone turning you down for this simple and beautiful day planner that takes your goals and turns them into values. Helping you under-schedule your life, end schedule shaming and help you get out and live.
Velvet Slippers – Because our feet need love too. What more do I have to say about these? They are the most comfortable slippers I’ve ever experienced and that price tag is a steal!
iPhone Photo Printer – We take more photos than any other generation and yet we have less printed photos than ever before. How could this be? Convenience, am I right? This gives you the ability to print on the spot. I mean how fun is that?
for the cook
BoWood Cutting Board – Or any BoWood product would do. Because nothing says I love you like a handmade, custom cutting board that can even be engraved. At least to a cooking enthusiast. These are products made for a lifetime.
Vitamix – The one appliance I can’t function without, this has become a part of my daily routine. Knowing they are on the steep price scale, the perfect time to add this to your wish list is right now. Plus have you seen their new models? Swooning!
Cuisinart Steam Oven – You can now replace your microwave {yes the EMF magnet} with this high functioning and more nutrition steam oven. The same size as a microwave with even more function and in the end higher quality food.
Matcha Kit – Isn’t matcha one of those things everyone wants to try they just get cold feet? It would be the perfect gift for a tea lover or health lover who is looking for something new, interesting and yet delicious. Let them become the master of their own frothy matcha with this kit.
Hydro Flask – All my other mugs have stepped aside for this. It’s sleek, practical and highly functional. Keeping your beverage warm all day long and without the dreaded build-up the other flasks have developed. You could even pair it with your favorite coffee or teas.
Multi-Cook Slow Cooker – I know the Instant Pot is all the rage but this takes slow cooking to new heights with multiple functions no other cooking has. Have you checked these out yet?
Teavana Tea Maker – Nothing screams comfort quite like a hot tea under a blanket by the fire. This tea makers I’ve had for years and I couldn’t recommend it enough, which I’ve done quite a bit of recommending. They even have this lower-price point tea maker I like to give to friends.
for the health enthusiast
Primally Pure Spa Kit – I’ve experienced a lot of beauty products in my life, what can I say I like to create my own at home spa moments. But I have to say I’ve never found any products quite like these. This company makes some of the best products I have ever used and wait until you see the price point. So good you can’t not buy!
Essential Oil diffuser + Oils – I received a diffuser plus oils a few years ago for Christmas and have to say it was one of the best gifts I’ve gotten. Not only is it functional and practical but healthy and beautiful. We have used our diffuser nearly everyday since. So if you’re looking for a gift for the health enthusiast you should definitely add this to your list.
Vibration Plate – Definitely a more expensive price tag but worth the investment. I can’t say enough about the change I’ve experienced not only in how I feel overall but my external appearance as well. I never believed you could get a good workout without actually working out until I stepped on one of these.
Light Therapy – The winter months can be long and dreary. Not to mention we’re so depleted of the precious vitamin D. Bring some of that back to life and experience energy without the sun with this cool machine. Just hook it up and sit in front of it first thing in the morning for an extra energy and mood boost all day long.
Salt Lamp – We keep adding salt lamps to our house. The warm glow is perfectly cozy not to mention the health benefits of cleaning up your air. It’s a unique and yet beneficial gift nearly any health nut will love. Just make sure you get a good one.
Blue Light Blocking Glasses – Maybe strange to buy glasses for someone, so maybe this is a gift for yourself. While I’ve pushed these over and over I have to tell you that this is one of the best things I’ve done for my health. The good news is these blue-light blocking glasses are popping up everywhere and they are so fashionable now. Check out the ones I’ve posted {you can even get prescription ones}
gift with intention
I know gift giving can be difficult, but it’s my hope that this gift guide can ease that burden. To really gift with intention and give things that last! That’s my goal this year! Also, don’t forget to grab that free handout on my top five tips to have a realistic holiday!
