Do you want more energy? Who doesn’t, right?
As I’ve been digging more and more into teaching how the human body works {Health Made Simple Class}, I’ve been fascinated with a straightforward truth that is key amongst all of the different body processes. That is energy. Our body needs energy to work and to thrive. When it feels like energy is lacking {ahem, stress}, it goes into conservation mode and starts to store, hoard, and conserve all that it can.
So what would happen if we could provide our body with ample amounts of energy {and I’m not just talking food}, would our body then have the ability to heal itself?
So many questions and so much thought has gone into answering this -but I do think it’s true. We’re a people living in an energy deficit, and that is making it hard for our bodies to function like we want them to, let alone lose weight easily.
So what would change if we stopped fixating on what we should be doing and started focusing on filling our bodies with energy? That’s been my focus lately, not is this good or bad, healthy or not healthy, because relatively speaking all of those are very personal things. Instead, my focus has been, does this give me energy or take it away.
Take it for a test spin and let me know what do you think? Is that point of view helpful?
Here are a few things that have helped me feel energized – what is on your list?
5 healthy changes to make this week
Little things can make all of the difference, but they’re also easy to overlook. On the journey of health, it’s easy to get caught in the mind trap of no pain, no gain, but this doesn’t happen to be the case at all.
One little thing can change how you feel, and if you change how you feel, you change what you do.
Try implementing one or all of these to change how you feel and let me know what you think!
- Drink eight ounces of warm lemon water first thing in the morning
- Eating one salad based meal a day
- 8 pm screen time curfew
- 10 k steps a day
- Sitting down to eat everything {no meals on the go}
5 things I’m loving
- I posted this shirt last week and when I ordered that I picked up one of these. I’m so glad I did {and yes, it runs big}.
- We’re a sucker for a good tater-tot casserole, and I like this spin.
- I can’t stop talking about this message – what do you think? How does your faith impact your health?
- I love the field of genetics, and finally, someone is clear on how they affect our hormones. This was SO insightful – you have to listen.
- Speaking of hormones – I started reading this book, and it is good at breaking down cycle syncing. Worth reading.
5 gifts any mother would love
I loved the reminder for all fathers – ahem, no handmade gifts made at schools, meaning it’s time to step up the game dads. And it’s not too far away.
Here are 5 of my favorite gift ideas for mother’s day!
- These earrings are trendy, classic, and meaningful!
- When you can’t send her to the spa, bring the spa home with this kit!
- This necklace is perfect {an inexpensive}.
- A good Tumblr is always a win, and I have to tell you this my favorite one I’ve ever used {and I’ve tried a LOT}
- I just received my new Vitamix, and I don’t know what I would do without it. Worth every penny!
5 recipes I put on my meal plan
Batch cooking is my jam. It is the only reason I get healthy meals in my body for breakfast and lunch. While I’ve been posting what I’ve been batch cooking here, I don’t just batch cook, but I plan my dinner recipes every night as well.
Planning for my week looks like planning what foods I’ll batch cook. That includes:
- Protein
- Grain
- Salad
- Veggies
- Dressing
In addition, I also cooking supper 2-3 times a week {during the work week} and a few times on the weekend. The rules with these recipes are: they have to be healthy, easy, and quick. Here are a few recipes we’ve loved to add to your meal plan for the week.
- This meatloaf is healthy, simple, and makes for great leftovers.
- Fajitas have been a family-favorite, and here is how I make them on one pan in 30-minutes.
- I altered this recipe for enchiladas – instead of the green sauce I went with traditional red and used corn tortillas
- Grilling season is back and this is one of our favorite grilled chicken salads – everyone can choose their own toppings.
- My husband has been begging for a stir-fry and I can’t say this is a stir-fry but I’m intrigued to try it out.
5 ways I’m going to love myself today
What I’ve found about energy is that we’re either filling our body with it or depleting it, and the determining factor is either love or fear. Are you living in a place of love – choosing to love and respect your body, or are you working to “change” out of fear or who you are or what you don’t’ want to be?
Complex for Friday, but some food for thought as you go into the weekend. If I had one piece of advice – what if instead of focusing on what you should and shouldn’t be doing, you just asked, is this the most loving thing I could be doing right now?
If it’s not helpful, then why do it?
Here are five ways I am choosing to love myself this week:
- 24-hour social media sabbatical – because social media still feels so toxic to me.
- One day of mandatory sleeping in as long as I want {or can because of kids ;)}.
- Daily salads to fill me up on veggies.
- Daily walks to help me clear my mind and fill myself with energy.
- One weekend adventure to a new hiking trail.
fill yourself
What about you? If you could stop pouring energy into fixing yourself – working on getting healthy, losing weight, becoming better – what would you spend that time doing?
Make a list and start doing it – you may find you have more energy allowing your body to take care of all your health needs without you having to fix it.
