The 2018 wellness trends and predictions were just released and I have to say I’m impressed. I picked my top five favorite trends I think will change your health.
I’m such a geek for wellness trends. The predictions of where people are pushing and moving in the health field get me pretty excited. Okay, giddy excited. I read the many articles about them and talk endlessly about them for a while.
So instead of bothering my husband any longer with what I’m sure are things he really doesn’t care that much about I thought maybe you would. So here we are with the 2018 wellness trend predictions.
I have to say that that wellness trends are looking better and better. In fact, I am so excited about where health is going and I think we’re finally in a good rhythm of improving.
So today in this brand new Friday series, I’m calling Friday Five in Five I’m filling you in on the top five trends that I picked to incorporate into my life this year. Five things to put into practice, try just for the sake of learning and figure out if my body likes them.
Make sure you listen below and let me know what trends you are loving! Leave a comment below! I can’t wait to hear!

In this short podcast, I listed my top five wellness trends and thought I would expand on them below. First up, is always self-care!
1. self-care is essential – not an indulgence
Self-care has not been something to come easily to me. In fact, it was at my lowest when I learned that I couldn’t continue to try to be everything and do everything for everyone. It wasn’t possible and it was crushing me.
Slowly in time, I learned that self-care, slowing down, and resting actually allowed me to do and be more. But I can tell you this mindset isn’t an easy one but a necessary one.
It’s time to unapologetically clear space on our daily calendars for more room to live unplugged to your phone and other activities. Just like I mention in the podcast as they instruct on an airplane, you apply your own oxygen mask first which allows you to be better equipped to support your family, friends, business, and life.
Take some time to sort through how you can add self-care practices to your everyday. For me, I’ve clearly written out some things that fill me back up and then I add them to the day.
Some of these things include:
- Taking hot Epsom salt baths while reading my favorite book.
- Going to bed at the same time every night.
- Creating boundaries around technology use after the work hours.
- Maintaining a sabbath – Which means one full day of rest a week.
- Creating routines, including a morning routine.
In the end, self-care is so much more than just the face-mask selfies and more about everyday healthy rituals that help keep your body and mind energized.
2. Biohacking My Health
Biohacking has been making its rounds the last few years from bulletproof coffee, paleo diets and even new technologies that are constantly popping up all over, promising to give you more energy.
It essentially is uncovering a life that makes you feel good. It’s about investigating principals and practices that make you feel better. It doesn’t have to be an expensive protocol only the rich and famous can do.
Biohacking to me this year means restoring my health in the way that works and is realistic for me. Does it mean trying new things? Absolutely, but in the end it is less about the gadgets and tinctures and more about peeling back the layers to finding you.
3. Daily Detoxification
Detoxification is one of those big scary words that you’re either for or against. But the tides are turning and fortunately, main-stream is starting to pick up on the fact that detoxification isn’t just healthy but necessary.
Granted there are a lot of right and wrong ways to do it. Of course, I also promote this detoxification program at least once a year but I want to go deeper with it this year. Knowing that our body detoxifies naturally daily I wonder how can I better support this?
So this year I’m choosing to up my daily detoxification practices. Some of them include {and I hope to expand}:
- Daily dry Brushing – It’s so simple and so inexpensive.
- Weekly Infrared Sauna Sessions
- Intermittent Fasting – You can learn how to effectively do this here.
- More rest and relaxation – To prevent too much stress.
- More fresh foods, air, and flowers – Because there is something so healing about all of this.
4. Adaptogens + Collagen
Adaptogens are something I’ve been slowly and cautiously incorporating through the years. However, I’ve never really dug into them and the many different ones on the market. This year is that year.
To clarify {although we’ll dig into this later this year} adaptogens help reduce inflammation and support your adrenals as well as detoxification. The goal of adaptogens is that they work with your needs specifically, adapting their function to your body’s needs.
The point of them is to be non-toxic to the body’s physiological functions yet offer widespread support and help bring the body back into equilibrium.
But with any herb, there is a right and wrong way to do this. It’s something I’m learning more about and will share with you as the year progresses, but some common adaptogens include ginseng, maca, ashwagandha, holy basil, turmeric.
5. Boxing + Flexibility
Boxing really isn’t anything new, although trending apparently. While kickboxing used to be one of my favorite past times I thought why not jump back on the trend. So this year, I’m pulling out the gloves and I’m getting back to the bag. However, I’m doing it with more thought.
I’m adding a touch of flexibility to these workouts and I’m hoping to see some crazy results. Because just as important is our strength so is our flexibility! I’ll be posting these workouts on Instagram and maybe in e-mails {I don’t know, do you want to see this}? Stay tuned!
