getting healthy as an enneagram 5
Enneagram type five, you value understanding. Your a deep thinker and value time spent processing the world around you. You thrive on self-sufficiency, independence, and alone time – collecting thoughts, ideas, knowledge, silence, and space. You pour your soul and energy into your thoughts.
As a five, you build your identity in your mind. Working to find stability and security in life through collecting or hoarding what it is that you think will keep you secure. In this, you generally live a minimalistic life, with relatively few needs and the stamina to provide for yourself. You are often suppressing your deep emotions, stirring them over in your mind for days before you’re able to articulate them.
But as you work to get healthy, you’ll learn how to feel the emotion when it comes and then let it go. Through this, you’ll develop courage outside of collecting knowledge, allowing you to take action and trust your gut. In health, you’ll be able to connect with your body and recognize that you, too, are a human, and your needs are valid.
Inside this episode, we talk about how an enneagram five can live in health, all while honoring the space and security they crave.
We’ve also created a free download for teaching you how to make health who you are through your enneagram number. Download the guide, print it off, and see how much it resonates with your life.
how to get healthy – type 5’s
Five’s you reside in the head triad. Meaning you often live out of fear and insecurity. Working to minimize anxiety, manage potentially painful situations, and gain a sense of certainty and security through the mental process of analyzing, imaging, and planning.
As a five, you’re always in your head – thinking, planning, imagining, fearing – it’s constant chatter. While this can be valued using your strong self-discipline and willpower, you must be careful to overthink and overanalyze yourself. Rather than living stuck in the “worst-case-scenario” mindset, what would happen if you shifted that to your energy levels?
Five’s only have so much energy to be used in a day and need to focus on re-filling and re-charing your batteries daily. What if you took your focus off of analyzing health or letting it take a back seat to the other pressures of life? Instead, you shifted your mindset to using health as nothing more than recharging your batteries.
Don’t overthink it, overanalyze it, or plan for it. But imagine, what would change if you looked at health as a means of filling rather than fixing?
Make this your mindset shift as you approach healthy lifestyle changes. That these aren’t just another thing you can use to secure or hoard your safety – but as a means to fill your energy bank.

health struggles
The biggest health hurdle for fives is to get out of your head. Get out of the analyzing, overthinking, and overcommitting. While you are in the head triad and you function based on how you think over how you feel – it’s going to be vital to use your strengths to create nourishing rhythms that suit you.
One highly positive strength {and con} of a five is your ability to detach your emotions from what you’re doing. If it makes sense, it suits you, and you can create a logical reason behind it – you stick with it regardless of what you may be going through or how your life may be changing.
You need to rely on this strength through developing nourishing life rhythms or patters that you can do to recharge your battery. Keep focused on the energy level and placing the reason you do things based on how it fills you up.
Be careful not to get too into your head, overanalyzing health, becoming addicted to doing everything right. Five’s you are one of the leading enneagram numbers to struggle with orthorexia – or the obsession with health. To overcome this, you must create a balance – that health isn’t just something you do but who you are.
When you get to this place, then health no longer becomes something you have to think about or get stuck in your head over. Once you create those nourishing life rhythms – then health just because who you are creating energy and re-filling your tank to do more of what you love.
practical steps
There are two critical life elements for a five; time and energy. A five is continuously working on conserving {or hoarding} both of these as a means to provide safety and security. Knowing this, here are some healthy, nourishing rhythms to make your time more efficient and provide you with more energy.
1. schedule your day based on your energy levels
A unique aspect of five’s is that you have a limited source of energy in the day. It runs out – and while this is true for everyone – you especially feel it. Therefore, it is crucial to plan your day according to your energy levels. Do your hardest and most important tasks while you have the most energy and run your errands mindless tasks once your tank runs dry.
2. practice self-care
It doesn’t have to be bath bombs and massage sessions – because we know that this would be a rare form of self-care for a five. Instead, think about the basics, the minimalist styles of self-care that fill you. What gives you energy? What fills your bank? Schedule more of this into your everyday life.
3. connect first thing every morning
Five’s, it’s easy to get so lost in your security that you pull away from everyone. But in health, five’s crave connection. A connection is one of the most significant ways to fill a five and calm them down. Find ways to connect first thing in the morning. Whether you take a walk or run in solitude out in nature or you brew a pot of coffee for someone you love. Find connections and let this drive your day.
4. Find a hobby
It’s comfortable to get so stuck in your head that you miss fulfilling your creative side. You are a born creative – even if that looks more like creating through research. Don’t forget innovation by putting all of your focus into researching. Trust your gut, be assertive, and develop this through a hobby.
5. use your creativity for meal planning
One trait of a type five is convenience. The reason for this is because five’s are the most likely to get lost in their mind that they skip meals altogether. While you’re one of the least likely to nourish your bodies well – I wonder if we could change this by combining what you do well with food. Be creative and innovative with meal planning. Committing to creating foods you love healthily and conveniently.
