One of the best things I have done for my health is learn to make delicious and comforting steaming hot beverages at home and this turmeric chai latte goes right up there in my top three favorites.
Of course it has touch competition with this matcha and this golden milk, because seriously they are delicious. If you need that spicier chai flavor though, this is it. A combination of the best of both of those into this delicious and healthy drink you’ll love.
Winter has never looked so promising.
Can we take a minute and talk about the health benefits?
the health benefits
That really is the beauty of homemade drinks. You can add all of the health benefits, like collagen and turmeric, that you wouldn’t be able to get at the coffee shop.
Well turmeric maybe, if you’re lucky. Regardless, both are great additions to help keep you healthy this winter, because the winter bugs are upon us {the con of the holiday season}.
the collagen
I know I toot the collagen horn all of the time but I really can’t stop crushing. I’ve used it well over a year now and I have noticed so many amazing benefits. The greatest one is the diminishing of my cravings.
Yes, it has stopped me from craving all of the things {perfect for this time of the year} simply because I’m satisfied. That and my body is nourished.
Speaking of nourishment lets just talk briefly about the vital nourishment in collagen powder in case you missed this post and that podcast. Collagen is found in muscles, bones, skin, blood vessels, our digestive system and tendons. Collagen is also what helps keep our skin strong and elastic. Yes, this is what some consider the nutrient that is the fountain of youth.
The list of benefits collagen provides in the body seems to be growing every day. Let’s look at 12:
- Helps reduce wrinkles and improve skin conditions.
- Supports the re-growth of joint tissue and help relieve join pain.
- Helps prevent bone loss.
- Help reduce cellulite and prevent stretch marks.
- Help you lose weight.
- Repair your GI tract and regulate a healthy microbiome.
- Enhance healthy hair growth.
- Helps support healthy teeth and gums.
- Balance your hormones.
- Protects cardiovascular health.
- Alleviate anxiety.
- Improve liver health.
If you step back and soak in that list you can start to see the magnitude of what collagen does in the body. I’ll repeat, it is an essential nutrient and one almost all of us struggle to get on a daily basis without supplementation or {for lack of better words} trying.
the easy solution
The easy solution to get more of this vital nutrient in our diets is supplement with it. Of course you could make and use bone broth, which is easier to do this time of the year. But if you’re not consuming that everyday our source of collagen is mostly non-existant.
That’s why I use a grass-fed collagen powder daily. Yes, each day I make sure and add at least one scoop to a warm drink, smoothie or mixed in some coconut milk. It’s so healing, so nourishing and so filling. I really can’t stop and if nothing else this alone can change the way your body feels.
Not to mention help beat those cravings this time of the year.
Remember not all collagen is created equal. You really do have to buy the good stuff and this is the one brand I have found to be good all the way through. Plus, they have collagen creamers {I’d say a better invention than sliced bread}. Get your own collagen and pick up some collagen creamer while you’re at it {both are delicious in this recipe}.
Getting your daily dose of collagen and immune enhancing turmeric just got easier with this recipe. Blended together in under five minutes, you can’t go wrong. There really is no excuse not to have a comforting, nourishing and filling drink in the mornings.
Of course, you could be a coffee drinker in which case I’d be surprised if you’re still reading.
I know moving to tea is like entering the dark side….
But would you give it a chance?
So simple, so delicious and so comforting!
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup milk alternative {I used a unsweetened coconut-almond mixture}
- 2 black tea bags
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp allspice
- ¼ tsp ginger
- ⅛ tsp cardamon
- 2 tsp honey {optional}
- ½ tsp turmeric
- Heat water and steep tea bags with cinnamon, allspice, ginger and cardomon in tea maker or cup.
- {If using a cup you may want to strain out the ground spices}.
- Once the tea is steep, strain out the spices and pour in a blender or a jar with a lid.
- Add in steamed milk, honey and turmeric. Shake or blend under frothy.
- Enjoy!
