fixing your bad breath
The most important thing about fixing your bad breath is knowing the source of where it’s coming from. It could be poor oral hygiene, food intolerance, poor digestion, or in other cases it could indicate a serious medical condition.
On the podcast, we talk in more detail about finding the root cause but in this post, I want to share five quick solutions on how to get rid of bad breath.
1. Drink Warm Lemon Water
This comes up as one of my most talked about tips on my podcast. From me and other experts. Drinking warm lemon water not only has a host of other benefits in the body, but the lemons are full of vitamin C which helps to boost your immune system which fights against bacteria.
Given that most bad breath stems from bacteria overgrowth, lemons are one good way to break that down and keep your mouth clean.
You can learn more about the importance of drinking lemon water here.
2. Tongue Scraping
Most of the bad breath cases documented can be attributed to poor oral health. Even if you’re brushing and flossing, once that bacteria begins to build-up it can be difficult to conquer.
Tongue scraping is an oral hygiene practice that removes bacteria, food debris, fungi, toxins, and dead cells from the surface of the tongue. Dental research has concluded that a tongue scraper is more effective at removing toxins and bacteria from the tongue than a toothbrush.
While brushing and flossing will loosen and move debris around, they do not actually remove the bacteria. Given almost half of our oral bacteria live on and in the deep crevices of our tongue; the scraping action of a tongue scraper collects these toxic tongue coatings and removes them from the body.
This is the tongue scraper I recommend.
How To Tongue Scrape:
- After brushing and flossing your teeth use the tongue scraper and pull from the back of your tongue {as far back as you can possibly go} and pull forward.
- Rinse the tongue scraper and repeat the process until the tongue appears clean.
- Rinse and spit one more time
- Repeat daily.
3. Oil pulling
Oil pulling is another practice to include in your oral hygiene routine. It is a technique of swishing a healthy oil, such as coconut, in your mouth to help remove plaque from your teeth and remove tartar from your gums
While oil pulling is known to clean your teeth, it also helps to whiten them in the process, keeping your gums healthy and your teeth. Make sure you use a high-quality oil, like coconut oil and pull for 5-20 minutes a few times a week {if not daily}.
You can learn more about oil pulling and how to do it here.
4. Eat Right
Bad breath or any kind of body odor can be attributed to the health of our microbiome. Yes, gut health comes up again. It is that important in the health of our body, our immune function and keeping concentrated balances of good and bad bacteria in our body.
Bad breath can be attributed to a lack of healthy microbiome traced back to eating:
- excess sugar
- processed foods
- harmful fats and oils
- inflammatory causing food
- foods that your body is sensitive or allergic to
To help fight off bad breath, become aware of what foods seem to trigger exhaustion or any other symptom in the body and eliminate them from your diet. Then focus on eating more real and wholesome foods with lots of healthy fiber.
Eat more foods that are grown from the earth. It’s really as simple as that.
5. Detox Your Body
Sometimes the best solution to curing what ails you is to give your body a rest. To separate out the toxins, provide the environment for your body to heal and let it do its thing.
Whether you’re suffering from bacteria overgrowth or toxic sludge no matter how healthy you are, just like changing the oil in your car, our bodies need specific times to recharge.
A simple cleanse or The Simple Cleanse could be just what you need to allow your body to have a break, to clean house and get back to proper working order. Getting rid of the toxic load will not only help your breath smell better but your entire body
But it’s not just any clean or detox, it’s one that gives your body the space to do what it needs to do. Here are some helpful articles on cleansing the right way:

how to cleanse
Cleansing doesn’t have to be some crazy process. Instead, the best option is just to provide the right environment and space for your body to do the job it was designed.
Of course, you can always take it a few steps farther with doing a complete cleanse. While I don’t recommend you become a slave to such a thing, I do think it is highly valuable to undergo a period and yearly cleanse protocol. Not one that includes crazy ideas and supplements but one that cleans up your life.
From your mindset to your food, work environment, and home life, a cleanse should look at your health as a whole and walk you through how to get this all done. I’ve created a 28-day cleanse called The Simple Cleanse that does just this. Plus it gives you the option to start at three different levels based on where you’re starting from and what you’re looking for.
A customizable program with all the food choices you need! If you’re interested, check it out here. I guarantee results!
