Stop avoiding stress and learn how to use stress to lose weight. Yes, you heard that right, it’s not the stress you need to avoid it’s your perspective about the stress that needs to change when you learn how you’ll completely change the flow of energy inside of your body.
Stress gets a bad wrap. But it’s not the stress that is harmful; it’s when the stress about being stressed grows in your life. It’s a violent trap that leaves you looking for a faraway land of perfection, comfort, and safety in a place it doesn’t exist – not with a stressed based mindset at least.
Most people villainize stress, and while this is partially for a good reason, it’s not entirely accurate.
Stress changes form based on your perception, and these take on a different meaning in our lives.
But if we go back to the original design of humans, one thing is clear – our bodies need to encounter stress and not just encounter it but thrive off of it.
If those two things sound counterintuitive, this podcast is for you.
Inside, I break down why your body needs stress, especially to lose weight and get healthy and how to change your view of stress to open up true healing inside of your body.
Did I mention, health is not nearly as complicated as we make it out to be?
stress isn’t what you think
Could it be that we’ve just overcomplicated stress? That we’ve taken something normal and made it an entire thing. Stress, which is and has always been a part of human nature, has changed focus, becoming the root of our problems. Or perhaps, we have failed to differentiate between different forms of stress, making it all sound terrible and daunting.
Leading us to live lives fearing stress, working to avoiding it meanwhile heaping it upon ourselves because we’re too fixated on it to move beyond it.
defining stress
It may feel like I’m talking in circles, but let’s dive briefly into stress.
Stress is defined as pressure or tension.
Words that often take on a negative associate but certainly don’t always have to. You see, while there is bad stress in our lives, some consider this chronic with the most common form being emotional stress, we also have many kinds of good stress in our lives, like exercise and fasting.
It’s the good stress that we see the human body change for the better.
Without good stress in our lives, we never engage our body into space where deep healing and rejuvenation can occur. We never fully allow for health in our lives, which pushes our body, releasing trapped energy, revving your metabolism, increasing your immune response, and even helping you to experience emotions of pure pleasure.
Good stress is a vital and needed aspect of health, healing, and weight loss that so many of us are neglecting and therefore aren’t seeing the results we want to see.
stop eliminating
Too often, in the space where we try to live life, we recognize our depravity. We realize what isn’t and keep our focus fixed here. The problem with this is whatever we focus on is what we give energy and attention to. The more energy and attention we give something, the more it grows and becomes more powerful.
So if you’re living a life of eliminating, then you’re always in a cycle of focusing on what you can’t have, do or be and it’s here that real humanity suffers. It’s here that life is stripped of it’s intended purpose, it’s here that life isn’t being lived, but sought after.
But if you continue to fix your gaze on what you can’t do, you’ll never see what you can. And it’s in what you can do and should do that the bondage of the trap you’ve placed yourself in no longer exists. You rise above, and you start to crave things that make you feel good, over comfortable.
change your perspective
It all comes back to your perspective. The perspective that takes something neutral and defines it as good or bad. So while I’m going to list many different forms of useful and necessary stress for change – if these happen from the wrong place, your body will complete a different biological process that is against healing rather than for it.
Stress your body, not to beat it into submission, but as a means of opening up space to truly heal.
Forms of good stress:
While not all of these are good-stress for everyone or at least not at a specific point, pay attention to your body and implement these forms of “stress” to engage your body in healing and release.
Good stress, which in the research is called eustress – the EU coming from the Greek word “good.”
To experience eustress, you have to recognize the root cause of all bad stress, which is simply a perspective of the stress at hand, change the perspective, and willingly and lovingly engage in “stressful activities” with the right perspective.
Don’t forget, the essential part of healthy stress is the refeeding or the rest on the other side. With exercise, comes rest, with fasting, comes refeeding, with adventure comes sleep. Don’t overlook the balance of both.
Here are different forms of good stress to help your health.
- Fasting
- Exercise
- Adventure + Play
- Sexual Pleasure
- Starting a new job
- Change {having a child, getting married}
- Learning
check your stress
It’s the thoughts, emotions, and feelings that are attached to the stress and your perception surrounding those events that channel the response in your body into two different directions—one of thriving or that of surviving.
Here are some ways to change your perspective changing your stress:
- Check your personality
- Get more sleep
- Let go of control
- Recognize your trauma
- Get acquainted with good stress
It’s never going to be perfect, but always a process. Constantly being aware of how you’re feeling and what you could be doing to create more harmony in your life. Most importantly stop fearing stress, but step into it knowing full well that stress can actually give you the energy your body needs.
Just be careful not to overstress!
