the variables
The standard variables in metabolism have been two things;
- calorie intake
- caloric output
Which are both valid and truthful when it comes to our metabolism. But there is one big and important factor that has gotten left out of the equation and why the simple formula of calories in = calories out doesn’t work.
That big point is calorie storing.
How your body stores nutrients, toxins, and unneeded energy in the body. The struggle with this point is that it’s not as simple as calories in and calories out. It’s not easy to measure, to see or even understand how to change.
This is the point of our uniqueness that makes a diet work for one and not the other.
It’s the point of our uniqueness that allows one to gobble down a hamburger while another has to eat salad.
It’s our uniqueness, period.
This is the point that has been forgotten in the health industry.
uniqueness
I’m very aware that honoring your uniqueness tends to be a very trendy thing. But outside the trend that’s our reality. Our bodies are all unique, created differently and yet similarly and are continually changing with our environments.
There is nothing static about health or nutrition or the way your body looks.
It’s all a part of the ebbs and flows of life. And THIS is the one thing that we have to remember if we want to change our metabolism. That life is seasonal. That our health is seasonal and that our metabolism is seasonal.
Instead of trying to fit inside a box, let go of the box and understand what your body does and what it needs, honoring your uniqueness.
Of course, this isn’t always easy, but it’s necessary, and I’m going to show you exactly how to do this inside this metabolism series.
get started
To get yourself started, listen to this podcast to gather the basics, the foundation and the truth about what your metabolism is and how it works. Plus, I break down some common “myths” to help you walk in truth.
Inside the show, I tell you why it is essential to ask yourself some questions. To get an understanding of how you work, how your body feels and what you actually want.
- Outside of food and nutrition – what is affecting your metabolism?
- Can you pinpoint how you feel on a daily basis including:
- your hydration status
- how your supplements make you feel
- what foods make you feel good
- what foods make you feel bad
- how your body responds after exercise
- how well you sleep
- etc.
- Can you feel healthy and unhealthy things having an impact on your body?
- Has dieting served you well in the past?
- What worked well from your “dieting” phase?
- What didn’t work well from your “dieting” phase?
- Can you picture a healthy version of yourself – what would that look like? Write it out?
no dieting required
The best news at all in fixing your metabolism is there is no dieting required. In fact, we’re doing the complete opposite in this series. It’s a series to help break free from what the dieting world taught you and step into the truth about how your body works. Learning to provide for it the way it needs you to and stepping back to let it do its job.
I’m glad you’re here! It’s going to be good.
Remember the big three things affecting your metabolism: Calories in – Calories out – Calorie Storing.
interesting fact
Here’s an interesting perspective on metabolism as we walk into the ketogenic era of diets.
Hummingbirds have the highest metabolic rate in the animal kingdom
Researchers are looking at a variety of animal models to see what they can tell us about the mysteries of the human metabolism and in the entire animal kingdom among animals with a backbone, the one with the highest metabolic rate is the hummingbird. They have a wing beat of 60-80 strokes per second.
Interestingly most of their diet comes from sugary sources like nectar, and even have a blood sugar level that would be considered diabetic in humans. Yet they manage to burn through it rapidly to keep their wings fluttering at top speed.
It goes to show the uniqueness we described in this article.
