I love sunlight, but it can take a toll on your skin. I started using this natural sun soothing spray and it has significantly helped my skin. Get the full recipe inside this post.
Taking care of my skin has not been one of my most successful health habits. It tends to get put on the back burner. I like to say I prefer all-natural, which is code for doing relatively little to boost my skin health.
Our skin takes a lot of stress and therefore needs a lot of love. It’s something that I’m working on making a bigger priority.
Especially considering it is our largest organ and our bodies first line of defense. Without healthy skin, we are more susceptible to every illness and disease.
witch hazel benefits
I’ve been a long time user of witch hazel. It’s incredibly cost-effective and beneficial. You’ve probably heard of it or have even seen it in the stores, and if you’re wondering how it works, then let me give you the benefits.
Witch hazel is a plant with powerful medicinal properties. It was most commonly used as medicine in the early years, with the leaves and bark being made into teas and ointments.
Witch hazel is widely known for its ability to ease inflammation and soothe sensitive skin. It is widely known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties and contains antioxidants that help prevent widespread inflammation and neutralize free radicals {1}.
The benefits
- Reduce skin irritation – suppressing reddening of the skin caused by injury or irritation {2}.
- Fight acne – Acting as an astringent, causing your tissues to contract to help shrink pores and soothe your skin {3}.
- Protect against skin damage – Witch Hazel is rich in tannins, a natural plant compound with powerful antioxidant properties that can help protect your skin against damage {4}
- Help fight off viral infections {5}
With the use of witch hazel, combined with aloe and healing essential oil’s this sun soother is something you’ll come back to time and time again.

my favorite after sun sprays
If you’re not in the market to make your own, check out one of these after-sun soothing sprays you can buy. All completely natural and safe – I highly recommend adding after sun soother to keep your skin healthy and moisturized all summer long.
safe Sunscreen
We can’t forget that safe Sunscreen is critical to the health of your skin. While I’m a fan of 20-30 minutes of sunscreen free sunlight on my skin, I always recommend a safe sunscreen, especially for mid-afternoon sunlight.
Here is a list of my favorite non-toxic sunscreens and other beauty summer essentials.
- Babyganics Sunscreen Lotion = 1 {I know it’s made for baby’s, but it’s a favorite for myself}
- All Good Sport Sunscreen Lotion – EWG rating = 1
- Alba Botanica– EWG rating = 3
