Alexa Schirm, Founder
Alexa is a busy mom of three girls and the founder of Simple Roots Wellness. She received her bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and has taken a holistic approach in teaching people how the body functions and makes recommendations through this understanding. Alexa has a passion for helping people reach their goals of optimal health through teaching them the importance of eating real food and how easy and delicious these changes can be. She is also passionate about shedding light on many of the myths and misunderstandings that are perpetuated in the world of wellness, taking once complicated nutrition issues and simplifying them. She enjoys helping her readers sift through the nonsense and teaches them to start eating to support health for life using real foods. Helping them eat to live.
When she’s not doing something for this blog (which doesn’t feel like very often) Alexa can be found running, working out, going on bike rides with her family, shopping with friends, painting with her girls, throwing an occasional party, planning her next house project and traveling around the midwest.
Payton Schirm, Business Development Manager
Payton and Alexa are middle school sweethearts and have been together for over half of each others lives. Payton is a master when it comes to everything behind-the-scenes. He has a degree in mechanical engineering and has worked as a design engineer, and most recently a lead engineer for the past six years. Payton’s primary roles with SRW are editor, ad network manager, internet marketing, and overall business strategy. He is also involved with most every other aspect of the blog including grocery buying, social media and recipe sharing, accounting, technical support, and the ever-important emotional support.
Outside of work, Payton loves riding bikes, working out, running, working outside around the house, finding a great burger and playing with his girls. He dreams of getting back into playing baseball to relive his college days, but has to settle for slow-pitch softball for now. He also looks forward to taking the family on weekend camping trips and enjoying the outdoors and one day starting his own blog to help teach others the ins and outs of starting an online business. Payton and Alexa both currently reside in Iowa with their three daughters ages 5, 3 and 1, along with their golden retriever and two milk goats.
