Should you get rid of plastic?
Controversial.
Confusing.
It really never ends in the health world. We’re constantly being bombarded by more and more information telling us what we should and shouldn’t be doing. The problem, it all seems so contradictory and against the way of the world.
The good news is, nothing is ever as difficult as it seems and this question is no different.
So to answer the question of should you get rid of plastic?
It’s a resounding yes.
GET RID OF PLASTIC!
Now I’m not here to be “judgy” but really just break it down and make it simple. We could get into the debates on the health contradictions, ozone implications and so on, but we really don’t need to. Because the simple answer is getting rid of plastic actually helps to simplify your life, which in the end enhances your health.
While it’s true I do believe that the health implications and getting rid of as much BPA (chemical found in plastic) in your life as possible is really going to benefit you, but we can’t ignore how much less stuff you need and have if you choose to purge your house of plastic.
Yes, plastic really is everywhere and used in everything. But, don’t worry there is a trend to go #plasticfree and I want you to be a part of.
Not to mention it’s clean, like clean earth and clean home which makes life more cozy. What’s even more than that, skipping the plastic and cutting to other things actually does enhance your health, and we’re not even talking about the chemicals in plastic.
But plastic does create the perfect sticky environment for bacteria to grow. That’s one reason your plastic water bottle you buy at the gas station says, not-reusable and why your plastic containers tend to get scummy. Not to mention all of that valuable and nutritious produce you buy in plastic goes bad at the snap of a finger.
Plastic is not a good environment for you or your food either. It is a breeding ground for bacteria, a host of chemicals and it creates congestion in our landfills and our life. So in honor of all things health what if you took one challenge today and did the plastic purge.
GO #PLASTICFREE CHALLENGE
The challenge rules (I’m officially making these up on the fly and are subject to change, wink) commit to living in a plastic free home. Okay, that may be slightly impossible as the keys I’m typing this on are made of none other than plastic, but let’s just say the plastic things that come in contact with your food.
Say plastic bags at the grocery store, the plastic produce bags you shove apples, spinach and other things into, plastic containers, plastic water bottles, dinnerware and utensils and just keep working your way through your life until the plastic is gone. Slowly but surely you’re realize just how clear (pun intended) life gets when you switch your plastic products to something more sustainable, long-lasting and truly healthy.
And when I talk sustaining, what seems like a few bucks now actually saves you hundreds in the long run because sustainable products are made to last, not just be a quick fix.
This is why I’m so excited to share with you an amazing company that I can fully stand behind. It’s called Mighty Fix and they have a pretty sweet offer for you today. But first lets give a shout out to what they are doing. Their mission which is to; get tried and true sustainable products into the hands of everyone. And even more than great products is to help encourage a habit change in you. For we all know the best way to change a habit is to change the environment and Mighty Fix makes that easy.
Mighty Fix is a monthly subscription box that helps you replace something that’s not particularly sustainable or healthy in your home, with something that is.
For instance you could get a set of wool dryer balls to replace the highly toxic dryer sheets. Or Bee’s wrap to replace plastic cling wrap. Or how about this deal for you. Five mesh produce bags designed to keep things fresh twice as long (and I can stand behind that claim).
Not only are they more beautiful than the traditional plastic bag (which by the way, the zip locks never works, like ever) but they also create the air-flow your produce needs to breathe and stay fresh. And if I may keep selling you, they’re reusable, sturdy and come in a set of five so you are sure to have plenty of room to store all the produce you need.
I can promise, if you make the pledge to skip the plastic bag and opt for these beauties, just this simple step working toward a habit change can really catapult you into consuming more veggies. And if you can’t figure out what veggies to buy or how to eat more, we can never get enough produce.
In the meantime, with Mighty Fix’s mission behind them, they have a special offer for you. You can get these five mesh produce bags for $3 using the code SIMPLEFIX. That’s a $13 savings as normally the bags run $10.99 + $4.95 for shipping. You’d be crazy to pass up this deal, right?
If you’re anything like me, it’s the little things added up over time that make huge differences in our health. It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing thing. In fact, health is a marathon, something you are in continuous motion striving for. Making simple environment changes such as a simple and inexpensive monthly box subscription to get the job done can pay off huge in the long run. And I wouldn’t tell you these things if I didn’t fully believe them. It’s like Christmas every month…. well for health nuts like us, right?
Here’s how Mighty Fix works:
