The mechanisms behind the effects of probiotics are far more complicated than simply ‘topping off’ our supply of intestinal flora. Our gut micro biome can help modulate our immune system and this is necessary for the proper function of every other part of the body. While it is best to feed our natural inhabited bacteria through fermented foods and probiotics, it is often necessary to supplement with high quality soil-based organisms. Start with a small amount and gradually increase to the normal dosage.
Much has been written about the need for, and benefits of, Vitamin D supplementation over the past several years. It is absolutely critical for health. We can get Vitamin D from two sources, food and sun, with the main source of Vitamin D in food coming from seafood, however, you would have to eat a lot of it to get enough. I usually recommend between 2,000 – 5,000 IU per day of supplementation and as much sunlight (sunscreen free) as possible.
There are few compounds in the body more important to overall health than Magnesium. It is needed for over 300 enzyme reactions in the body, including every enzyme associated with ATP (energy production) and enzymes required to synthesize DNA, RNA and proteins. Magnesium also plays an important role in bone and cell membranes, as it helps to transport ions across the membrane surface. This mineral is difficult to obtain from food, with nuts and seeds containing the highest source. The problem is you would have to eat a significant amount to meet your daily Magnesium needs without getting too much polyunsaturated fat. This is why supplementation is so valuable, not to mention it is a great sleep aide and natural laxative.
Protandim has been proven to protect against oxidative stress. It works by increasing the body’s natural antioxidant protection to help reduce effects caused by free radical scavengers and protects against oxidative stress. In fact, it has been shown to reduce oxidative stress on average of 40% in 30 days. Protandim works by encouraging our own body to protect itself by turning on it’s own internal antioxidant defense systems. This internal network of antioxidant enzymes is approximately one million times more protective compared to typical antioxidant supplements or even from the food that we eat. The idea of enabling our body to “make antioxidants” naturally within our cells compared to the standard approach of “taking antioxidants” is foundational in medicine. It does this through a blend of five natural herbs.
Life is chaotic with most of us craving and needing more energy. The problem is too often we turn to sugar-laden, processed drinks and excess amounts of caffeine to get us through the day. While this cleanse states no caffeine, no coffee and no black tea I know that this may be unrealistic for many of you. Drinking water just isn’t going to cut it. So in effort to try to fill the gaps, helping you to avoid other artificially sweetened beverages with no benefit I am allowing the LifeVantage Axio products to fill this gap. Used in moderation, it is a healthier choice that taste refreshing allowing you to do more without jumping the sugar roller coaster. The powerful combination of brain ergogenics delivers the anti-fatigue, balanced mood and mental focus benefits that keep your mind and body going all day long.
Protiens are the building blocks our bodies need for every cell, hormone and enzyme to be built. It is vital that we get enough proteins daily and from the right sources. While grass-fed animal proteins or vegetarian sources can be expensive, Vital Protiens (collagen) can fill in the gaps. Vital Protiens, or collagen, is a high bioavailable source of protein as well as having many other benefits. Collagen supports skin, nail and hair health, as well as aiding in the balance of hormones, supports bone and joint health, aids in satiety, heals the digestive tract, and is extremely versatile in your diet. It would be a great addition to your smoothies, hot tea or bone broth.
MCT Oil stands for medium-chain triglycerides. These fatty acids are the essential fats needed in our diets for healthy brain function, immune system operation, hormone production and cellular energy to name a few. While not all fats are created equal, MCT oils are highly beneficial to the body and can even help you burn excess lipid stores by pushing you into the fat-adapted state. MCT oils are great to add to a smoothie, hot tea or any meal to increase satiety and the nutrients you gain from the food you are eating. Coconut oil is an example of MCT oil, as well as XCT oil, which is a boughten liquified form of the oil (this can be added to anything). Start small, as fat also lubricates your bowels which can lead to loose stools, then slowly increase to the recommended dose.
Apple Cider Vinegar
While our first line of defense is our digestive enzymes, it is estimated that 90% of the population no longer produces the correct amount of stomach acid. Low stomach acid leads to a cascade of digestion problems further along in the process including gas, bloating, constipation, and acid reflux. This ultimately leads to imbalanced gut flora, inability to break down proteins, nutrient malabsorption and all of these lead to food allergies and other disease. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar can be a beneficial supplement to increase the acidity of the stomach. Drink 1/2-1 tsp in 1/2 cup warm water. Take this before each meal and after if needed.
Organic Potato Starch Organic potato starch is a resistant starch, or a prebiotic, that is needed to feed the good bacteria in our digestive tract. Potato starch in particular feeds a species of bacteria that has been shown to increase our metabolism and is associated with lean individuals. There are numerous health benefits of consuming more resistant starch, especially with the reduction of grains. My recommendation is to mix 1-2 Tbsp of organic potato starch in 1/2 cup warm water twice daily. Again, this is something that needs to be done slowly otherwise you can become gassy and bloated. Start with 1 Tbsp daily and slowly increase until you are consuming 2-4 Tbsp daily.
Increase Your Detox
Oil Pulling helps the body rid itself of accumulated toxins, especially trapped bacteria in the mouth and gums. This allows for healing from within by aiding our body in its own curative process. It is very simple, safe and inexpensive. The mouth is the first place for toxins and bacteria to enter the body, causing an array of diseases. It stimulates the immune system to fight toxins in our mouths and prevent those toxins from finding their way into our bloodstream. It can also make your teeth whiter, gums brighter and breath fresher. Start slowly. Place 1 Tbsp of unrefined, organic coconut oil in your mouth (liquid form) and slowly pull it in and out through your teeth (not in a swishing manner). Continue for five minutes, working yourself up to 15 minutes every morning. You should notice a difference in just two weeks.
Skin Brushing is an optional and an effective means for circulating the lymphatic system. Brushing for 10 minutes prior to showering or bathing will aid detoxification by sloughing off dead skin cells, which is important given that the skin is our largest eliminative organ. It also encourages lymphatic movement, keeping circulation functioning well so you can supply proper nutrients to the cells as well as eliminate toxins in a timely manner. Brush gently with upward strokes toward the heart. You should notice an improvement in your overall skin health as well as circulation.

Personal Care Products
Cosmetics are one of our biggest offenders when it comes to the toxins we put on our body. The reality, our cosmetics are cocktails of industrially produced and potentially dangerous chemicals that are damaging our health and in some cases rather than delivering on the promise of “anti-aging” are actually speeding up the process of aging. This is why you need to really consider what brand you are using and make sure they only use the best ingredients. This is why I highly recommend the Beautycounter brand as my go-to for cosmetics.
Your makeup brushes are another thing you should consider. There is no reason to buy natural products and then spread them on using toxic brushes. This set is one that I’ve used for quite a while and they have held up really well. The set comes with a blush brush, eye shading brush, angled eyeliner brush, concealer brush, lash & brow groomer, and a case. You can also check out this eye brush kit if you are looking for more brushes. If you are looking for a more high-end brush set, be sure to check out this Cosmetics Brush Collection from Beautycounter.
One Thousand Gifts Devotional
We are an over-worked, overstressed society. In order to achieve true health we MUST learn how to relax. Stress, whether emotional, work, family or lifestyle related is wreaking havoc on your body by increasing cortisol levels, preventing the body from performing the natural functions of healing and purifying. In order to cleanse the body, we have to work on ways to reduce the stress load. Slow down, you are missing so much. One of the best ways to reduce stress is to practice gratitude. Realizing all that you have, your blessings and giving thanks for that. This One Thousand Gifts Devotional is a great book that teaches you how to express gratitude daily.
