Cravings are powerful, but you are more powerful. Inside this post, you’ll learn how to stop sugar cravings without changing what you eat by learning how cravings work. It’s not about getting rid of the cravings but channeling them for something good. If I could just quit sugar?
Why can’t I stop eating carbs?
If I could just stop the sugar cravings?
They feel suffocating and all so real. I have first-hand experience with cravings, but who doesn’t. It’s in our design to have cravings – we were made to crave. So if you feel like you’re overwhelmed by your cravings, remember, it’s a human thing.
But just because humans crave, does not mean our cravings should control us!
While powerful, they are not more powerful than you. Rather than living your life craving and then trying to avoid your cravings, what if you could learn the biology of craving and turn it to use for good?
Cravings are the beginning of desire that we can use to unleash health in your life.
It’s not about getting rid of cravings but channeling them in a healthy and positive way. Inside today’s podcast, we talk about how you can change your cravings, even those sugar cravings, from unhealthy behaviors to desire. And it has nothing to do with what you eat and everything to do with what you perceive.
the anatomy of a sugar craving
Cravings are classified as biological. Meaning they have a hormonal basis creating the mechanism for desire. While this is partially true, hormones do induce a response in the body; the hormones aren’t driving the communication, they are merely acting as messengers.
So while it is true that cravings are biological, we can’t dismiss that they’re also and, more so, psychological. It is here in our brain that our control panel triggers out different hormones creating a biological response. It’s in our perception of life and our thoughts that create our behavior, and in unhealthy ways, this behavior happens to lead to cravings.
If we dive deeper into the psychological aspect of cravings, we can start to understand that cravings in themselves are not the issue but the supporting cause.
sugar cravings are not the issue
If you look at the anatomy of thought, you can quickly recognize that any thought that sticks inside the body and creates action has to have some kind of supporting evidence to be labeled as real and therefore induce a response.
Our body develops supporting evidence from many different processes. Whether it is stored memories, traumas, belief systems, and even visions of our future, the glue that makes it stick to our belief system is an action – which is often birthed from a craving.
With a positive and healthy thought, this craving can induce longevity through action. It can take something good and make it desirable – which is the foundation of making health achievable and pleasurable. Meaning, yes, you can desire and crave a salad, along with movement and many other healthy things.
But on the flip side, taking a negative action will only enhance the energy that is put into that negative cycle.
Which is the point of cravings – they are supporting the energy level in which we’re living.
You choose energy in abundance or scarcity?
Energy is in abundance inside of our bodies, and it’s not that you don’t have enough, it’s how you choose to channel that. There are two channels, that of abundance or that of scarcity. When we look at cravings for unhealthy things, these are birthed from negative energy coming from the mindset of scarcity and survival.
It’s the false attempt to find false pleasure or quick energy to cover the energy void you are dealing with.
When you’re operating in this lower state of energy, you’re allowing yourself to be under the energy level of the craving. This opens the door to be ‘controlled’ by it, even though you have absolute control over your energy levels. But you see where I am going – the less energy you have, the less willpower you have {which is directly related to your energy levels}, and the less control you have over the cravings.
Making you subject to whatever the craving wants.
On the flip side, if you can open up your flow of energy, free it inside of your body, you’ll rise above your cravings and have control. Plus, you’ll no longer need to crave in the same way you did before. Instead of covering up the void, you’ll be creating desire. C the power of using cravings for health – it makes you want it at the core of who you are.
change your cravings
But how do you get there?
How do you change your sugar cravings without changing what you eat?
It all starts with energy and opening up the energy flow in your life.
Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Understand what you’re craving and why you’re craving it? Where do your energy levels fall, and what are you looking for?
- What thought process triggered this craving, and is it helpful or hurtful.
- Is there something else you could use to increase your energy, changing the focus off the craving and onto a solution?
- Don’t neglect your cravings, but acknowledge and act on them when it’s fitting. The more you try to avoid the cravings, the more energy you end up giving them.
- ENERGIZE your body – it’s here when you’re working from a place of abundant energy that you no longer need to mask a lack of energy less.
rebuild your foundation
Cravings are a part of human design, meaning that you also have control over them. But this means taking back control of the driver’s seat. Stop living as a passenger to your thoughts or the thoughts of others and come back to the foundation of what you believe. It’s here in your belief system that you uncover freedom.
Crave because God intended that we be dependent people. Part of that is seeing God as the ultimate source of energy and living depending on him to fill you – but this is less about what you can do an more about opening up.
What would change if you stopped feeding what is negative – you stopped giving the things you hate attention, and you opened up to the life of your design?
What would it look like for you to crave health?
