Our metabolism is often tied strictly to our weight. The reason we ebb and flow and even plateau. But our metabolism is so much more than that – in fact – it’s the sum of all chemical reactions in the body. What’s even better – there are some great ways to boost your metabolism and inside you’ll learn my top five.
“Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time: what we really want is things to remain the same but get better.” – Sam Harris
Isn’t it true, we want things to get better but without the aspect of change. Because change is hard, no matter how you throw the dice. Health may be the trickiest of all.
But that’s what I love about the human body – is that it too wants to get better. We don’t give it enough credit for the constant work it puts in to keeping us alive and well. And today, we talk about how our metabolism, one of the most intricate and detailed characteristics inside the body is working to keep you well and how we can support it.
Inside today’s podcast, you’ll learn what your metabolism is – the sequence of different physiological functions that are working to keep it in check and how we can boost our metabolism naturally.
We talk about weight loss, cravings, energy and more. Check it out below.

it all boils down to…
Boosting your metabolism all boils down to five things: 0ur natural daily rhythms, what we’re eating, how we move, our gut bacteria and our mental health.
The funny thing about those five things is they really encompass health in general. They amount to the five things that don’t just improve your metabolism, but everything inside your body – lessening your chance of disease, giving you more energy and improving your mood.
Inside the podcast, we break them all down in detail, so I’ll do a quick rundown of the top five ways to boost your metabolism.
harness your daily rhythms
We function off rhythms. Natural, regular, everyday things that you do repetitively. This makes up your life. Everything from what you like to do, what you prefer to eat and even if you work out or not. They’re our daily rhythms.
While most people work on creating healthy habits or setting new goals – I think the most significant way to change our health and metabolism is to harness your daily rhythms. How can you create new rhythms, change your natural rhythms to become more healthy? It’s like your circadian rhythm. Maybe instead of going to bed at odd hours every night you pick a reasonable time and stick with it.
Start to dig into your life – what do you do repetitively day in and day out and how could you make small changes to harness the power of these rhythms.

focus on WHOLE foods
There’s no denying food has power over our minds and our bodies. That’s why it’s critical to choose the right foods. Honestly, we all know which foods are the “right” foods so rather than telling you what to eat – I want to know what’s holding you back from eating them?
Take some time to think about what’s stopping you from grabbing whole foods rather than processed foods. Then pinpoint a few ways that you could make processed foods less convenient.
Inside the podcast, you learn why processed foods {a.k.a. High reward value foods} are so damaging to our metabolism. And don’t forget health foods don’t have to taste bad. So focus on palatability over reward.

move it – move it
Movement makes a difference. Yes, lean tissue {muscle mass} is metabolically active. This makes it one of the best ways to boost your metabolism and change your health and your weight.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be strenuous, and it’s less about time and more about steps. Focus less on how long and focus more on just constant activity throughout the day. Don’t forget it you don’t love it you probably won’t stick to it – so make sure you enjoy what you’re about to do.
healthify your microbes
Even though your GI system and your brain aren’t technically in the same area, they have each other on speed dial. Some want to believe that your gut microbiome is the most significant indicator over your brain. I’d say that’s second to your thoughts, but they are playing a dominant role in our mind which is the center of control over metabolism.
Our gut microbiome, next to our thoughts is helping our body to get a grasp at our environment. Cycling out the correct hormones based on what it perceives our need is. As they’re finding out, your gut can tell you a lot about your environment and your health. The best thing you can do for your gut health is to create a healthy environment to flourish.
The common thought is pump probiotics, but I take a different approach. Instead focus on eating lots of fiber through fruits and vegetables, hydrating well, reducing gut killers like sugar, alcohol and medications and intermittent fasting – giving your GI tract time to rest.

challenge your mind
Challenge your mind – it needs it. Scientist estimate that we have 60,000 thoughts a day. Those thoughts, aren’t just things but every one sends a chemical reaction throughout the body. The more stressed we are, the more negative we tend to be and the more harm this causes our body.
Take some time to challenge your mind. Are you thinking positive thoughts? Are you enjoying your life? Do you feel like you have a sense of purpose?
Write down what’s going on inside your head and then get busy using your mind to make you healthier.
