The best self-care practices for enneagram type seven is explained inside. It’s a subject I’m delighted to talk with an actual type seven on what this looks like in life.
Self-care is a subject that I’ve thought long and hard about. Similar to the body positivity movement – it’s one that has a lot of good and bad. But if we go back to the original definition of the word, then I think we can start to understand that self-care is not just another series of benchmarks and checkmarks, but it’s a filling from abundance.
Of knowing where you are and loving yourself for being there. Yet willing to take the necessary action to fill that self up. Whether through nourishing foods, bubble baths, or anything in between. Self-care is what you need and providing that when you need it – even if it is just a morning of extra sleep.
So maybe all of that to say, we don’t have to practice self-care but rather make self-care a part of who we are — living self-aware.
The Ennea-health series was born from this. A place of actual knowledge to take action, creating a healthier life that is who you are not what you do.
Today we continue digging into the Enneagram type seven through an interview with none other than my sister. Today I talk with Whitney Bowne in a candid and entertaining interview about her health journey and how she has learned to use her strengths to overcome her health hurdles. Learn all the details and what this could mean for you inside the podcast.
enneagram type seven
Seven’s, you have a unique ability to light up a room. You value joy and variety, envisioning how you can make the world a more delightful play. You’re great at planning, seeing possibility, and working to make all of life more pleasurable. You can hold onto vast amounts of information and synthesize this into easy concepts to teach.
But like all enneagram types, what’s best about your personality is often what is worse about your personality. Your gift is also your curse. You seek fun, possibility, and pleasure to mask or rid yourself of any pain you may be experiencing or fear of experiencing.
You are the great pain avoiders who hate everything that can bring pain with it, including restriction and boundaries. The best way you avoid pain is by keeping things lively and positive – living more in the future than in the present moment. But this limits your ability to find satisfaction. There is always something you haven’t tried, something more to do, some new thing to exploit, and you do this all to avoid the pain or the anxiety that pain may be lurking around the corner.
getting healthy
Seven’s, I wonder what would change if you changed what health could look like? That it doesn’t have to mean giving up but instead slowing down, living more in the present, exercising self-restraint, and getting back to the business of ordinary life.
What if you saw the good, right here, right now? To see that health isn’t something that you have to restrict to get but something that can help you live more satisfied — doing more of what you love.
Inside the podcast, I talk with Whitney Bowen about her struggle with complacency and anxiety and how she has learned health practices and routines to help her use her mind for health. We dive into what holds her back and turns her off from health and some ideas to create simple mindset shifts. To make health not something you do but who you are.
