Most people believe you’re stuck with the DNA you are born with. While this is partially true, it’s not what really matters. The defining point in health is not your DNA but how your DNA is expressed. Inside this blog, we’re going to talk about how you can use energy to change your DNA and change your health.
Energy is the name of the game – specifically, how do you get more energy?
But energy can be a confusing subject and one that doesn’t get much air time.
Ironically, we tend to measure everything outside the body in terms of energy, yet we fail to see how powerful it is inside the body.
Energy is the very thing our body needs to thrive, and yet it’s the one thing, so many of us wish we had more. But what would change if you started to see energy for what it is? Not a matter of how much or how little you have but recognizing that you have an infinite amount.
The problem isn’t in lacking energy but in how you channel it knowing that energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
Dr. Misak came on the show to talk about the power of energy inside of your body and the effect it has on how it can change your DNA. In this podcast, we dive into longevity, stress, emotional energy, and so much more.
energize your body
Energy is the source of life inside of your body. While most people wish they had more of it, the truth is we all have an abundance of energy. The issue isn’t how to get more but how to channel your energy in the direction of health.
Given energy is the main source of life, it shows how energy can affect every cell in your body, even change your DNA, specifically your telomeres.
what are telomeres?
Telomeres are the caps at the ends of chromosomes that protect DNA from damage. As we age, these telomeres get shorter. When they get too short, the cell can go into an aged, unhealthy state where it can no longer divide and replenish tissue.
Short telomeres are a leading factor in predicting the onset of aging and disease. Even more, short telomeres in younger adults appear to have significant health impacts specifically on our immune system. This increases one’s chance of being infected with the common cold and other diseases.
The short story is, telomeres are essential in tissue repair and replenishment of cells, especially when we get older. So how are they protected?
Well, there is a particular enzyme in our cells called telomerase, protects telomeres, rebuilding, and lengthening them.
But this process requires the activation of energy or the channeling of energy in the direction of health.
increasing telomerase
There is no doubt that diet and exercise significantly increase the production of telomerase. But we can’t leave out the mind, body, and soul approach that comes together to create a perfect flow of energy, allowing your body to do the job it was designed.
So what does it take to increase your telomerase and, therefore, longevity? A full-body approach to health. Here are a few tips that will get you started:
1. Focus on mineralization in your diet
Think calcium, magnesium, and zinc, found mostly in our whole earthly foods like vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Unfortunately, our soil has become depleted in minerals, and therefore most people still need a well-rounded mineral supplement to help balance out this need. But whole foods, grown from the earth, always win.
2. Reduce chemical exposure
The facts don’t lie, and we are exposed to over 10,000 chemicals on average a day. That is a low estimate. This makes it even more critical for us to work to reduce our chemical exposure wherever we can. One way is through purchasing local or homegrown produce and animal products or organic when you can.
If nothing else, make sure you’re getting the Dirty Dozen from the organic section and cutting back on other chemical exposure such as cleaning supplies and beauty products.
3. Reduce our insulin load
Reducing insulin really means reducing your sugar load. While I’m not a fan of no-sugar or no-carb, glucose is good and needed in the right concentrations in our body, too much, and it sets our bodies up for disease. Limit your insulin exposure by lowering the number of carbohydrates consumed, especially from processed carbs like chips, crackers, pasta, and granola bars. Make sure you never eat carbohydrates alone. Always pair them with healthy fat and protein sources.
Intermittent fasting has also been shown to reduce insulin exposure.
4. Change your perception of stress
This is where the mind-body-soul component comes into the picture. While stress isn’t good for our body, often it’s not the stress but our perception of the stress that’s making the situation worse. For most people, it’s unrealistic to get out of some stressful environments and conditions – if you can, you always should. But what if it wasn’t so much getting rid of stress, which is truly an unattainable feat for human beings, and more about changing your perception of stress?
What if you could see stress in a different light, open up to a different viewpoint, and stop festering in the stress of stress? It’s a big feat but one worth considering.
5. Stay connected and get support
Through all of the longevity studies that have been done, one common theme is the power of connection in longevity. I truly believe humans were created to connect as we are dependent human beings. The notion of independence has robbed people not only of longevity but also of a lot of joy and happiness.
Don’t let the world distract you with the thoughts that you need to be a strong, powerful, independent person. You were designed to connect, so make that a part of your everyday life.
one simple thing
Another list can be another overwhelming task – another stress-reducing your telomerase. But if I could give you just one simple thing to focus on that can change the course of your entire day by improving the function of your autonomic nervous system is how you choose to wake up.
Don’t wake up and rush or wake up and get on social media.
Wake up and allow yourself to experience five minutes of pleasure and joy. Pray, meditate, cuddle, run, do something that stimulates the feelings of joy before anything else. This truly does change the course of how your body functions and how it will respond all day long.
Starting with joy every day will add up over time and have protective effects on your mood and cell aging.
