If you’re struggling with vaginal odor, don’t worry. Every single woman has a smell, and this odor is normal. If we’re going to get to the bottom of it right now it’s this, aiming for odorless is an impossible and unnatural feat.
However, there are some odors we need to be wary of and additional measures to fight bad smells. But all in all some odor is normal, and as always, it’s never a bad thing to take care of the space down there.

WHAT NOT TO DO
Vaginal health is rarely talked about. Most do what they hear their friends talking about in quiet whispers. But ladies, your vagina is delicate, and it’s not something you should be embarrassed to talk about. It serves some pretty incredible functions and deserves a little tender loving care too.
1. Wash your vagina
Wash it in the shower of course, but stay away from douches, wipes and special soaps. They just aren’t needed and in many cases are making the smell worse. Your vagina is perfectly designed to clean itself. Remember, there is no need for your body to clean up after your idea of cleaning. Clean water is good enough.
2. Stop using products
As mentioned above, products can make the problems worse. Your vaginal region, just like your scalp, armpits and GI system has a microbiome and homeostatic pH level. Anytime these are disrupted it is going to leave you with excess discharge which could come with a smell. Rather than wrecking your microbiome and changing your pH, lay off the soaps and stick to water.
You should also try changing out your conventional menstrual products with all-natural, chemical free and organic ones.

3. consuming foods your sensitive to {+ sugar}
Food has a lot of power, we know that, and we’ve heard it spoken. But did you know that what you eat can also change your vaginal smell? Those sulfur containing foods could ignite some extra scent. So pay attention to what you eat and how you smell. You could uncover a correlation.
But more than that, eating foods your body is sensitive too, even excess sugar can induce an inflammatory response increasing the amount of discharge and sensitivity to the region down under. Try eliminating high-inflammatory causing foods and cut back on the sugar.
4. wearing the wrong panties
Talking about changing your undies may not be the sexiest of ideas, but the fabric of your panties and even the cut can influence your vaginal health. Basic cotton undies are the most wicking and breathable lessening the smell down there. Lace, satin, and silk tend to be more irritating and hold the most moisture. Not to mention cuts like a thong or g-string can transfer bacteria from your anal region bringing it forward causing more problems than just irritation.
Again, I know there is a time and place for different panties, be cautious of the situation and think the most critical times are often under high moisture situations like excessive sweating {summer} and exercise. Stick to cotton, at least in these moments.
5. Hormonal imbalance
Like anything, smells, excess discharge could all be a sign that you have a hormonal imbalance happening. If it’s out of the ordinary, dig in. Don’t let it continue, because more than likely you don’t just have vaginal smell happening. Stay tuned in to your body and try things like cycle syncing to understand where you are in your cycle and how you can help your body.
