It’s time to stop hoping for change and choose to make change. This is my slogan for the new year and no better time than now to choose change. As resolutions are being made all over the world, statistically with the emphasis on weight loss or health in general. The problem with these resolutions is not in making them, rather what types of resolutions people are choosing to make. “Losing weight” is consistently the number one resolution made by Americans, and yet of those who manage to lose weight, 90-95 percent are unable to keep it off long-term. It’s no wonder so many people fail to keep a resolution like weight loss, since the resolution itself is so overwhelming. To top it off, weight loss is not a guarantee for finding health and happiness in the New Year. It is easy to come up with what we think we want to change, but when we get into the nitty-gritty of actually DOING it, we slip up.
This year, instead of going with the same old “lose weight” resolution, I recommend setting a different goal that will bring more meaningful wellness to our life. In the long run, this will be more enjoyable and more beneficial to your health and happiness. You may be surprised to find that you actually lose weight without trying when you set the right goals going forward.
Don’t set your expectations so high that you can’t even begin to achieve and thus get burnt out and give up. Remember you didn’t get to the situation you are in overnight, don’t expect it to go away that quickly either. Take time to really evaluate where you want to get and propose that the most effective way to build good habits and reduce bad ones is to make small, gradual changes to your daily routine.Choose today to stop being a statistic. Make the new year, the best you yet. Stop setting yourself up to fail, you are worth this!
So how do we set resolutions that are attainable? First evaluate and reflect on what has worked and what hasn’t in the past. This will help you to devise a plan going forward on how to overcome these hurdles and make small lasting changes to become healthier than you’ve ever been. I’ve developed a free printable that takes you through seven steps at creating lasting goals for the new year. These steps will help you evaluate what has worked in the past and what hasn’t, helping you to create realistic and attainable goals for the new year. All you have to do is click on the buttons below and I’ll send the printable pdf files right to your inbox.
To help you achieve these health goals, I’ve added another gift to you, a free weekly nutrition tracker. Too often we overlook the obvious. That is why I have developed this weekly tracker to help you plan your weekly menu because that is half the battle, as well as track your daily habits allowing you to be more aware of small changes that will leave you with lasting rewards.
