Red light therapy, also called photobiomodulation is a powerful tool for our body. As we know, we all experience light of some wavelength daily. But have you ever wondered how powerful light can be? Inside this podcast, we dive into the value of red light and what it can do for the body.
Light is a powerful thing in our life. In fact, it’s essential to the working of our body. Like food, light is an energy source for our body. It provides nutrients, changes our mitochondria and DNA structure and enhances our hormonal flow.
Sure, we may not think of the impact of light on our body because it’s so standard, so normal, it certainly is making a big impact. Of course, we know this with the buzz around blue light and it’s negative impacts on our health.
But did you know, that blue light isn’t necessarily bad either? It all has to do with the balance of light and using it at the right time throughout the day.
Inside this podcast, I interview light expert Melissa Strahan as we dive into:
- Light therapy
- Why the wavelength matters
- Its impact at the cellular level
- What you should know about blue light
- How to use red light to heal
And so much more! Make sure you listen to today’s podcast and check out Melissa and the amazing at-home red light therapy device from Joovv.

not all created equal
Not all light is created equal. Just like most things in life, there are different forms, even of light. These various forms of light fall on a light spectrum ranging from violet to red, with some light not visible to the human eye. But all of light is measured in nanometers which represents a wavelength of light or a band of energy.
In nature, there seems to be a perfect balance of light ranging from red to blue. Even the sun throughout the day emits different wavelengths of light for protection, energy and to work with our body to produce exactly what it needs.
It’s pretty incredible when you dig into studying how the earth was designed, and it’s the perfect effect on the body.
However, when we side too far to one side, we can get an imbalance of light which can cause adverse side effects in our body. For instance, today we seem to come in contact with an overabundance of blue light and late at night causing inflammation, hormonal disturbances, and sleep problems.
But blue light in itself isn’t bad – it’s just the amount and time throwing off our homeostatic balance. To bring this back to the center, we should work on reducing blue light exposure {from screens} and increase our red light exposure. As red light has been shown to have many healing benefits.
red light therapy
Red light therapy or photobiomodulation is not designed to increase perspiration or improve cardiovascular function. It impacts cells on the cellular level and increases mitochondrial function and ATP production. Primarily, it “feeds” your cells to increase energy.
Several studies are showing strong evidence that supports its health benefits. It is even FDA approved for chronic joint pain, slow to heal wounds, wrinkles, hair loss, and acne. Many others have used it for issues like psoriasis, improved circulation, and better immune function.
As mentioned, the research is mounting and includes benefits such as:
- Rejuvenate facial skin and smoothe skin tone. {1}
- Builds collagen in the skin to reduce wrinkles. {2}
- Repair sun damage. {3}
- Activate the lymphatic system for potentially improved detoxification. {3}
- Decreased inflammation in the skin. {4}
- Fade scars and stretch marks. {5}
- Enhances hair growth to reverse balding. {6}
- Stimulate wound healing. {3}
- Prevent recurring cold sores or herpes simplex.
- Beneficial for the skin to reduce eczema, rosacea, and acne.
- Help heal thyroid function.
- Increased blood flow. {7}
- Enhanced muscle recovery. {7}
- Soft tissue repair. {8}
- Improved skin tone.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
I love the idea of light therapy because it’s a non-invasive way to help heal the body without adding to it. Meaning it doesn’t come with side effects or contradictions. However, like every new treatment – it’s best to run it by your health practitioner.
joovv
While there are a handful of ways to get red light therapy, the company I back is called Joovv. They have done extensive research on their products and combine red light therapy with infrared light to penetrate deeper into the bodies tissues and organs. Not to mention, the scale of the Joovv products helps to reduce treatment time, even down to 10 minutes a day – depending on what product you purchase.
If you’re looking for red light therapy as an option, check out Joovv to learn more.
