Inside I share my Friday favorites including a shortlist of healthy packaged foods I love. You don’t want to miss reading this one.
It felt like it took May 22 years to arrive but what do you know, we’re nearly to Memorial day. As I was walking this morning, the birds were chirping, the sun was just peaking through the clouds, and I reminded myself to slow down and take it all in.
The warm summer air that I’ve been desperate to feel, and I don’t want to get too busy or too in my head to remember to soak it in.
Which got me thinking about slowing time down – did you know you actually can? Well, no, the sun still revolves, and the clock changes minute by minute at the same speed every day, but our perception of life changes whether time feels like it is flying by or not.
Clearly, we don’t want to feel like time has stopped – because generally speaking, that feeling comes with tough situations. But even then, you can see how your perception of life changes how quickly or slowly time appears to be moving.
The big point to note, the faster your mind is racing, and the more you’re trying to get accomplished, the quicker time will go. Busyness means time will feel like it is flying by, creating a scarcity mindset. As soon as you feel like you don’t have enough time, you don’t because this has become the fixation on the mind.
So the best way to slow time down is to value every moment, not in a rush, but to honestly believe life will happen as it should and that racing the clock will only make you lose more time. To gain time by enjoying the little things in all of the little moments throughout the day.
That was just a little Friday tidbit for you! Which brings me to my Friday Five – things that I am genuinely enjoying.
5 healthy Packaged Foods I’m loving
You know I love realistic health, and often that means pre-packaged foods. Don’t get me wrong, I greatly value who foods but how realistic is it to say that you’ll never eat a packaged food again? Probably not very. So I want to share some of my favorite healthy packaged foods that I think you will love as well.
- This SoDelicious Coconut Whipped Cream is heavenly. Put it on a bowl of strawberries, and it will fulfill any sweet craving.
- Salads are in right now. I’m loving the Drew’s Organics salad dressings.
- I made this spinach artichoke gnocchi using Trader Joe’s cauliflower gnocchi – if you haven’t had it, it’s worth stocking up.
- While you’re there, Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute is good on basically anything. But we love it tossed with veggies and potatoes to roast in the oven.
- We’ve been enjoying smoothies topped with granola – my kids have loved the peanut butter version of this.
5 summer rhythms I’m instilling
Summer is here, at least in this household. I declared an end of school because it was exhausting keeping up. I know everyone has their own opinions, and while the teachers did an incredible job getting us homework – I don’t know how working parents keep up with work, housework, and school. It was too much-added stress on my kids and I that we’ve resorted to summer hours. We’re all relieved.
With that, here are 10 healthy rhythms I’m instilling for summer.
- Ten minutes of morning sunshine.
- Slow Saturday mornings.
- Eating my smallest meal of the day supper.
- 5:00 pm social media curfew and fill that space with more cuddling, reading, pool time, and nature.
- More reading – it so much more filling than scrolling.
5 healthy summer veggie recipes
- This Greek Chickpea Salad Looks divine – and it has all of the veggies.
- I still can’t get enough of this Spinach Caesar Pasta Salad.
- This Sweet Corn and Tomato Salad is a close second.
- I love sheet pan-fries, and this recipe proves to be the answer in making them crispy.
- Grilling veggies is another great way to mix up the flavor – learn how here.
5 recipes I’m batch cooking this week
I’ve not been the best at keeping up with batch cooking, but I have to. We’ve been getting take out far more often than my budget likes. While I love supporting small businesses, it’s time to get back on the batch cooking wagon. Here is what I’m making this weekend.
- Crispy Sweet Potato Fries {recipe above}
- Grilled Beef Kabobs {recipe coming soon}
- Grilled Veggies {recipe above}
- Texas Caviar
- Chimichurri sauce
5 safe sunscreens for summer
I seem to always forget sunscreen until after the first burn, whoops. But I’ve been better about stocking up this year. Here are my favorite SAFE sunscreens for summer {both spray and face}.
- Banana Boat Simply Protect {for kids – but it’s suitable for adults too} – EWG rating 3
- Babyganics Sunscreen Spray – EWG rating 3
