Give me, give me, give me all that salsa… and chips.
GASP.
GULP.
EEK.
Are you wondering how to make homemade salsa three ways or are you starring blankly at the chips in astonishment that me, Alexa Schirm would post chips on her health blog?
This my sweet friends is real life. I mean I could tell you that the chips are just props, to make the photo look more legit, buuuuuut that would be a lie. Chips can be are addictive to me and thus why we use them as a treat. I mean once in a while, every now and then, in small portions corn chips can be okay. Would I recommend organic? Absolutely. Should you eat them every day? Absolutely not.
So lets clear the air on a few things before you pass-out that this is even happening on a health blog. I mean I’m sweating just a little bit even sharing such a photo with such food but seriously real life is not deprivation, real life is having a value and enjoying it, right? So here are my little two-cents about this picture and said food in picture;
- In a healthy, well-functioning body, it is able to handle some “abuse” (a.k.a. foods that provide little value and maybe even some inflammatory causing properties). It should be able to shake it off if done on an occasion. NOT.EVERY.DAY.
- Salsa and chips are practically married. One just isn’t good without the other. I mean sure plop a heaping spoonful of homemade salsa on my salad or eggs and I’m pretty content. Scoop up that fresh, chunky goodness with a crisp chip and I’m in Heaven.
- Deprivation = binging and so why deprive and instead live life a little. Pick your battles wisely and trust your body.
- Moderation. ->YUCK<- Have I ever told you how much I hate that word? But it is true, setting boundaries with dead foods and putting more focus on the nourishing foods will help you keep these treats in a reasonable boundary.
- Achieving a healthy body for life can only be done through a realistic and practical lifestyle. Don’t get wrapped up in once in a while things, instead stay focus on what you do the majority of the time or consistently. This is what matters most.
So now that we cleared the air on the chips and living a practical and realistic health life lets move onto the stars. That being those deliciously, colorful trio of salsa. We have your basic tomato salsa, peach salsa and watermelon. Can I say I don’t even know what is happening with all of these savory and different watermelon recipes. From the savory bacon and watermelon salad to watermelon salsa. Apparently I have a new spunk about me this summer.
Regardless, there isn’t anything better on a Friday night, than salsa, lots and lots of salsa, possibly some guacamole and good friends. Not to mention the fact that a salsa bar has got to rank up there as one great way to bring people together.
Plus, this trio of homemade salsa all have the same flavoring combinations and yet all three taste remarkably different. A little lime juice, garlic powder, salt and fresh chopped cilantro mixed in with that fruit and veggie goodness and this is how to make homemade salsa done right.
Be kind my sweet friends and focus on all that salzzzza! Enjoy your Frrrriiiiiidddaaaayy!
