There’s one thing you must know about my family, when someone says guacamole they all come running. So it’s no surprise through years of testing with some of the hardest food critics {a.k.a. children + picky spouse} we’ve landed upon the best guacamole recipe ever.
Now, if I’m honest with you avocados by themselves aren’t one of my favorite foods. Although I can handle it, the mixed with all kinds of salty, citrus goodness and I can get behind that. It’s also probably no surprise that avocados have immense health value. They contain all the good, healthy fats that so many people rave over and really is just a good way to increase satiety.
While I love avocados chopped on salads, hashbroffles, in omelets or on tacos, my favorite way is definitely guacamole. It’s healing, satisfying, and so helpful in nutrient absorption, which the majority of the population needs a little help with.
guac toast
Given that avocado toast are all the rage, I thought I’d try it out for myself and spice it up with guac toast. Wait, is guac toast a thing? Either way, I took it upon myself to take another turn using sweet potato slices that I toasted on a cast iron skillet. Words can’t even tell you how much I love this and so much more than toast. This is coming from a carb lover. But these sweet potato toast just may steal this guacamole show.
the elephant in the room
Before we wrap up this show, can we just get the elephant out of the room? Yes, avocados are a high percentage of fat which also makes them high in calories. However, this doesn’t make them a bad food! In fact, avocados can actually aid in weight loss and hormonal balance.
The fat in avocado is mostly monounsaturated fat, which is the kind that can lower your blood cholesterol. The fiber in avocados also helps to control insulin by reducing the release of digested sugar into the blood stream working to prevent the sugar high. This means that yes, guac toast changes the way your body responds to the carbohydrate load in toast.
Plus, avocados are considered to be an anti-estrogenic food, meaning the plant sterols help block estrogen absorption and promote progesterone production in woman and testosterone in men. This ultimately allows your body to have a better balance on estrogen.
