Menopause, PMS, moodiness, pregnancy, menstruation, you’ve probably at some point heard about all of these, or maybe even been lucky enough to experience being a bystander to one of these.
These moments in a woman’s body that are strictly hormonal. The 28-day cycle of what seems like highs and lows in energy, mood, and even libido.
But did you know, that men suffer from a similar swing in hormones? While women run off of a more well-known 28-day cycle, there is some speculation that men have their own monthly cycle as well. However, as of now, you are still recognized to be fluctuation on a strict 24-hour cycle.
Regardless, they are finding that men are undergoing the same hormonal swings as women, maybe just not in the same fashion. Of course, all of this research is coming off the startling statistics about men’s testosterone levels, rates of erectile dysfunction and even sperm counts.
Startling is what it all is.

erectile dysfunction + sperm counts
If you listened to the podcast, you heard the alarming statistics about erectile dysfunction and sperm counts. If you didn’t listen, I’ll fill you in briefly.
New reports show that erectile dysfunction is appearing in 25% of men under the age of 40. And the trend doesn’t stop there. By the time men hit 40, 40% of them will experience erectile dysfunction and 70% in their 70’s {1}.
But lets back up for a second, while we know that testosterone levels naturally start declining in your 30’s, before then, testosterone should be at its peak. Therefore the rates of erectile dysfunction should be near none simply due to this fact.
Similarly, new research shows that sperm counts and sperm quality have dramatically declined over the last 40 years. The study involved data from 185 studies and 42,000 men around the world between 1973-2011. They found that this a is a 52.4% drop in sperm concentration {2}.
This solidifies the fact that nearly 50% of all fertility cases today are linked back to the male.
