Incontinence might come to mind when you think about the pelvic floor. Or the fact that you refuse ever to jump again because no amount of protection can stop that. The truth is, over 12 million adults struggle with incontinence.
And that is just the tip of pelvic floor dysfunction. We haven’t even gotten into sexual health, posture, hip pain or mom pouch.
Pelvic dysfunction is a problem so many suffer with, and yet so few get help for. Not to mention there is this false belief that once you have it, you’re stuck with it. BUT – the good news, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.
The truth, we can control our pelvic health, and it’s not as difficult as it seems. Inside today’s podcast, we dive into the 8 myths behind pelvic floor dysfunction and how you can correct it.

pelvic floor dysfunction
Pelvic dysfunction comes in a lot of different shapes and problems. The crazy thing is incontinence could be the least of your worries with dysfunction. Our pelvic floor is the core foundation, literally holding our lower extremities to our core – which means it also can affect everything in our body.
The problem is the pelvic floor gets stressed – a lot. From birthing children to aging, to normal daily activities and even more intense activities like running – the pelvic floor takes a lot of stress. That stress can lead to fatigue and even sagging, which equates to dysfunction.
The good news – it is fixable and even preventable.
how to fix it
Kegels are the most famous way of correcting pelvic floor dysfunction – you can learn the best way to do Kegels for men and women here. Other tools that you can use include:
the yarlap
My preferred tool is the Yarlap. The Yarlap is an auto-kegel meaning it’s a medical device that electrically stimulates the pelvic floor muscles for you. Meaning you no longer have to work – the machine does all the work for you.
I found that I wasn’t correctly doing Kegels and when I was not regularly enough to see results. Since switching to the Yarlap I’ve found considerable improvements in my minor incontinence, but more profoundly my back pain has gone away.
I’ll do an entire post on my experience soon but for now – trust me when I say the Yarlap is well worth the investment. They’ve even been featured as one of the best new health tools on the market in InStyle Magazine. Check out all the reasons why you need to work on your pelvic floor health inside the podcast.
